It helps the City taxpayer? Gives us a break. The City taxpayers have enough problems without having to give a cheapo a cheap office. The City Development Office has to give Tonko an office? Rent some vacant office space Downtown-plenty right across the street from City Hall. When Roger Hull takes over kicking him out should be the first order of business.

Get those rich people...Doctors, Engineers, Chemists, Biologists - they need to pay their fair share. Their contributions and talents to society MUST be punished. How dare they profit from their specialized talents - take the fruits of their labor and spread it to those who are less talented and less motivated. Let's create a whole class of citizen that beleive they are OWED a living off of the backs of the talented. I agree Box - THEY MUST PAY!!!

Those Doctors, lawyers, Engineers, Chemists etc... Were making big money when Reagan was president. They were doing well when Carter was president. They were even doing well when Eisenhower was president... But so was the rest of the country. Since Bushy's Tax Cut for the Rich... some of these groups are paying 20%,18% and 15% tax, while the working blue collar man who ACTUALLY WORKS is paying a real tax rate of 30-35%. One of the richest men in the country, Warren Buffett, pays the LEAST tax of anyone in his office around 15%, while his staff and even his secretary pay 30-35%.

And what's that "fair share" number again? I think the definition of fair share and the way liberals use the term fair share are two different meanings. The word fair and share would translate to EQUAL, yet Box and the rest of the libs twisted it to mean if you are more productive and earn more than your neighbor you MUST PAY MORE. Pretty fair, don't ya think. I'm sure box will come back with the Buffett example. The funny thing is - his solution isn't for people to pay EQUAL,,, but pay MORE. So that really ISN'T fair share, it is MORE than your fair share.

Warren Buffet is probably in the top one tenth of one percent of "rich" people. His money comes from investing globally, not performing a tangible skill like a triple bypass. If a heart surgeon makes $500K in NYC, should they pay a higher percentage tax of their income than a $60K heavy equipment operator in Gloversville? If so, why? Or, as you suggest, should the $500K surgeon pay the same as the heavy equipment operator. Who determines the "fair share"?

Fair share... as it has been determined by congress, has been a graduated tax. Those on the bottom pay very little, as your income increases, the rate increases. That system was fair in the last 60 years... and seems especially fair today. Since Reagan's failed "trickle down" economics, the system started putting more and more tax burden on the middle class, instead of the rich. (A reverse graduated tax)
A Flat tax has always been an option. Everyone pays NO TAX below a certain income... Once they reach that threshold, the rate is fixed for EVERY DOLLAR made after that point. BUT... Once you open the door for bogus tax deductions (for the rich of course) the system is no better than our present one.

NEWSFLASH-The Tonko Bridge to nowhere has already been built. It's that idiotic pedestrian bridge in Downtown Amsterdam. There is no money to transfer-it's already been wasted. He could care less about the Senior Center but it makes for a captive audience when he prattles on about stopping Charter Schools or more abortion funding.

Why do people earning less paying less, and those earning more pay more? That's not fair, that's graduated, and unfair and definitely not sharing. The rich would pay the "lions share". You're probably the guy at the bar who buys back one drink for every three bought for him if you think the person makes more money than you. That is your sense of "fair". Everything is means tested. The surgeon needs to pay more because he/she CAN. Graduated tax policy and tax deductions are nothing more than political tools used to divide people into groups and control people. You think it's our tax policy that's hurting the middle class, and the politicians play you like a puppet perpetuating that lie. It's our monetary policy that's killing the middle class. Printing money and inflating the dollar and setting artificially low interest rates. Central banking is the enemy of the middle class, NOT the "rich".

We're talking about federal income tax correct? Last I checked state and local property taxes paid for police and street plows. Military I can agree with you on. Federal money pays for - Department of Education, Department of Heath and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Office of Personnel Management, Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, and 19 other bloated government agencies...Just wanna make sure we're comparing apple to apples.
BTW, police don't prevent crime, they report it. Smith and Wesson keep me tucked in at night, not a $130K police chief and overpaid cops tasering 12 year olds at roller skating rinks.
