Conservatives Can't Help It...

... they are born with defective brains. Really! I'm not kidding!

    This study explains a lot...
Liberals are better at understanding complexity
    Conservatives have more fear.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Totally believable..
Liberals see the US going off the cliff of debt and dont' worry about it a bit.
Taxing the rich alone isn't going to get us out of this mess.

t’s also true that our political persuasions can fall into many more categories than liberal and conservative. “In principle, our research method can be
applied to find brain structure differences in political dimensions other than the simplistic left- versus right-wingers,” Kanai said. Perhaps differences
in the brain explain why some people really have no interest in politics at all or why some people line up for Macs while others stick with their PCs.
All of these tendencies may be related in interesting ways to the peculiarities of our personalities and in turn to the way our brains are put together.

Still, Kanai cautioned against taking the findings too far, citing many uncertainties about how the correlations they see come about.
“It’s very unlikely that actual political orientation is directly encoded in these brain regions,” he said. “More work is needed to determine how these
brain structures mediate the formation of political attitude.” Nice try Box.

Try???  I posted a link.  Take from it what you may.

I do see a strong correlation between what seems to be "fear" based politics from the Right, and "reason" based politics from the Left.

For as long as I've been following politics, the Right is always "warning" it's followers... often with an argument based on "fear" ... Terrorism, Immigration, Communism/Socialism etc.  For the Right to do well, they need an "enemy"... something to 'fear'.
That "fear" based argument never seemed to work with me or like minded friends.  Not that Lefties don't  'fear',  but the fear seems to fit the threat.

I've also noticed that a presentation that is "reason" based is ineffective on the Right.  If the speaker isn't preaching "fear" (Glenn Beck, Druggy Rush, etc) the words don't seem to matter.  Friends on the Right seem to not even hear the presentation and find it boring.

Of course these are generalities, but those on the Far Right and on the Far Left seem to fit the description exactly.

The left doesn't use fear? really?

I seem to recall phrases like
"don't let seniors decide between food and their meds"
"don't force women into back alley abortions"
"Republicans want you to die faster"

I hardly think the 'pubs have the Monopoly on fear mongering

I didn't post that... you did.  (Maybe you made that mistake because you were fearful!)

Government uses fear for power and it doesn't matter which side uses it the outcome is the same, bigger government.

I have no fear of Big Government, as long as it provides a needed service at a reasonable cost to the taxpayers.
Big Govt provides our military, CIA/FBI, interstate highway system, air traffic control, etc. etc etc.
All taxpayers resent wasteful government no matter if it's Big/Federal Medium/State or Small/local.

No Box... YOU said the right uses fear to preach to its constituents and left uses "reason".
EVERY politician uses fear to keep the sheep in line, you're just too locked-stepped in line with the Dems to admit it.

I was quoting the link that proposed the Right responds to 'fear' while the Left responds to "reason".  I find this to be generally true.
Fear the Immigrants in Arizona... Fear the Socialists in the White House, Fear every social program ever invented!

If you consider yourself a Conservative, then possibly your own post proves the theory to be true... Your post  "EVERY POLITICIAN USES FEAR TO KEEP THE SHEEP IN LINE", says a lot about your view of politics (and possibly is an example of the theory.)    I don't feel that way about "EVERY POLITICIAN", but you do.

The research isn't mine, it belongs to  scientist who found a biological difference between Conservatives and Liberals, and according to YOU in your first post, the theory is "TOTALLY BELIEVABLE"!

Box you didn't note that his study group only consisted of 90 people, that's a pretty small sample to start drawing any conclu sions from. The study was based on 90 "healthy young adults" who reported their political views on a scale of one to five from very liberal to very conservative, then agreed to have their brains scanned.

Shadow,
It isn't presented as "absolute proof" of anything.  It's an indicator of a probable outcome... NOT PROOF.

However with many similar studies, the original preliminary research, lead to a more thorough study that found similar findings.
Certain parts of the brain control creativity, art, mathematical skills, color perception, language skills.
The parts of the brain noticed to be enlarged in these Conservatives DOES respond to fear
and
The part of the brain noticed to be enlarged in these Liberals DOES respond to reason.
That is accepted to be fact.

Reasonable cost huh, you do know we are barely able to pay the interest on what we owe as a nation and every program run is basically bankrupt. What they can't make up for in taxes in done by borrowing and printing which really hurts the poor. Take that and try connecting it to the lefts thinking and you have a nightmare, socialist motto " the government can tax whatever they wish as long as it takes care of the people equally."

if the left responds to reason, then why the fear mongering from lefty politicians?
My "totally believable" phrase was specific to liberals to don't seem to fear (or care) about our impending debt doom and just want to get on the next government teet. It's kind of funny that they want to save the environment for future generations but could care less about saddling them with debt.
The research comes from a single scientist, of course a scientist can't be wrong.
Politics 101 - keep your eye on the next election cycle and if that means scaring voters about your opponent, don't hesitate.

To both Henry & Tbird:

Income Tax in this country is the lowest it's been since the 50's.  Since Reagan's bogus 'trickle down' the rich have paid less and less while expenses have climbed.  As Conservatives, can you explain how the Republicans proposed to fight two wars WHILE CUTTING TAXES FOR THE RICH???
Who paid for those wars??? Who paid for the tax cut for the rich?  That wasn't liberal policy, it was Right Wing, Never Met a War I Didn't Like, Cut Taxes for every occasion... CONSERVATIVES.
Our debt grew under Reagan/Bush... leveled off and fell under Clinton, then skyrocketed under Bush and now continues under Obama.

If left to the Liberals or the Democrats, a tax increase was needed to pay for Afghanistan and Iraq (the optional war).  What the Republicans and especially the Conservatives did was to CUT TAXES while borrowing the money to FIGHT TWO WARS AND GIVE THE RICH A TAX CUT.

Fear??? Yea, I FEAR some Right Wing  Cut Taxes for Every Occasion, Republican will win the 2012 election.
