Weather Advisories:  THE POTENTIAL FOR A MAJOR WINTER STORM WITH SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS IS INCREASING FOR EASTERN NEW YORK AND WESTERN NEW ENGLAND FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY.
.
WINTER STORM WATCH FLYING FOR THE REGION.
.
This afternoon's weather charts continue to strongly suggest the development of a major Nor'easter along the mid Atlantic coast Thursday. Although considerable uncertainty remains in the track forecast, probabilities today are favoring a track close to or just east of Cap Cod and the Islands through Friday evening. As the storm is expected to develop a broad circulation, this track, if it in fact becomes reality, would put eastern New York and western New England in a favorable zone for HEAVY to MAJOR accumulations of snow from late Thursday night into early Friday night. There would also be a potential for a period of mixed rain/snow/sleet in the mid Hudson valley to southern Berkshire and Litchfield counties. As of this update, my CBS6 strike probability for a widespread 4" or greater snowfall for the region stands at a 7, or in other words a 7 in 10 chance.
.
POWER OUTAGE POTENTIAL.
This will be an extremely heavy wet snow, as is typical of late season storms. Significant damage to branches and trees will begin occurring after about five to six inches of snow has accumulated. In areas that see greater amounts (too early to determine at this time) there would be a potential for scattered to numerous long duration power outages due to branches and trees coming down on power lines. If you live in an area particularly prone to power outages in storms of this nature, it would be prudent to begin making preparations should outages occur through the day Friday.

Are we done with the snow yet?  * fingers crossed *

In other news, my mom called from Florida the other day to tell me about the tornadoes and storms.  I was watching them on a live webcam from the airport there and it was quite a show.  Im glad that shes safe but there were a lot of injuries and at least one death.  Some counties got it worse than others and its a mess.  One guy was showing the tv crews how his back patio is now his front porch.  His front porch is now down the street.
