With Thursday’s passage of United Nations Security Council resolution 1973, the United States is set to go to war against Libya. Removing Moammar Gadhafi from power would probably advance the cause of freedom, but the United Nations has no legal authority to take a step of this magnitude. By bowing to the will of the U.N. Security Council, President Obama is diluting the sovereign power of the United States.

The U.N. resolution authorizes member states to take a number of military and nonmilitary actions to protect the people of Libya from Col. Gadhafi's government. Under its own rules, however, the United Nations cannot legally authorize military action to shape the internal affairs of member states. Article 2 section 7 of the U.N. charter states that, “Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter.” Chapter VII of the charter, which enumerates U.N. intervention powers, applies only to international breaches of the peace. The December 1981 U.N. “Declaration on the Inadmissibility of Intervention and Interference in the Internal Affairs of States” reaffirmed this principle with its solemn declaration that, “No State or group of States has the right to intervene or interfere in any form or for any reason whatsoever in the internal and external affairs of other States.”

Ralph Nader: Obama ‘Should Be Impeached’ For ‘Committing War Crimes’
“Barack Obama is committing the same crimes [as Bush and Cheney], in fact worse ones in Afghanistan. Article 2

The Organization and its Members, in pursuit of the Purposes stated in Article 1, shall act in accordance with the following Principles.


1 The Organization is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members.

5 All Members shall give the United Nations every assistance in any action it takes in accordance with the present Charter, and shall refrain from giving assistance to any state against which the United Nations is taking preventive or enforcement action.

6 The Organization shall ensure that states which are not Members of the United Nations act in accordance with these Principles so far as may be necessary for the maintenance of international peace and security.

7 Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter; but this principle shall not prejudice the application of enforcement measures under Chapter Vll.

I'm more lovin the UN Charter that was violated.  Ralph Nader is anti ANY military action, and he is consistent in his anti war positon(unlike you and many who used the anti war rhetoric as political fodder against Republicans)

I'm still waiting Boxy - is this an illegal war waged by the Obama?  Should Obama be impeached?  Is he a war criminal?  UN Charter clearly states that they don't get involved in matters within the domestic jurisdiction of the state.  That includes Libya right?  At least Iraq had a UN resolution passed creating a "no fly zone" and UN Weapons Inspectors AFTER Hussein's invasion of sovereign nation(Kuwait).  Obama/Clinton imposed a no fly zone for a domestic civil war.   MAN...What a hypocrite.

Another red herring by ye ole Box.  What does GWB have to do with missile strikes and bombing runs authorized by Barrack Hussein Obama in Libya?  The bombing strikes in support of an unknown rebel force in a civil war to boot.  In a country that has ZERO American interests, base on what Defense Secretary Robert Gates says.  

Hey,,,I have a question...Is Bush Derangement Syndrome covered under the new Obama Care Bill?  If it is, you need to seek treatment.

I would like to sugest to all who can, go to the Unitarian Church in Albany tonight onb Washington Avenue.  They will be showing the film Beyond Belief.  Susan Retik will be the to speak.  This could do you ALL a huge amount of good. (Not Boxy--he gets it)  The rest of you slackers could use a little input to your brains that shows good being done after having suffered evil.  Don't worry, if you can't go tonight, I wil let you know when it will be shown again.

Look I am all for cutting military spending.  Us military spending is almost as much as the spending of China, Russia, UK, France, Germany, Itlay S. Korea and Saudia Arabia COMBINED.  Dopn't see you trying to save money there.  Like I said before, I would take Obama and certainly Hilary any day over ANY Rep. out there.  Hell I would have taken them over Reagan.

So you offer the lesser of two evils argument to avoid admitting Obama is waging an illegal war, and acknowledging that Hilary and Barry are NO DIFFERENT than any Republican.  Like Hermann Goering said "people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders".  You and the Box-mister are further proof that you are willing to sacrifice your so-called anti-war principles to protect the reputation of your dear leader.  You just can't bring yourselves to lambaste Obama the same as GWB when it comes to foreign policy.

Seeing how Congress approves the U.S. budget, Obama kind of has his hands tied as far as military spending goes.  BUT...As the Commander And Chief, he does direct U.S. foreign military policy and can pull troops out of Afghanistan, and Iraq, and he didn't have to commit our military in Libya.  But he continues Bush policy and is in favor of regime change in Libya.  How is that change panning out for you?  He spends us $2 trillion into debt domestically, AND gets us involved in a 3rd conflict.  

Take a look at the wars of the 20th century, and you tell me what party is the party of war mongers.
