SCHENECTADY -- Disney's The Lion King was good for Proctors and downtown Schenectady, according to new figures from the theater.
The 77,000 people who attended the performances -- there were 32 in all -- spent $5.2 million at Proctors' box office, and generated another $15 million in economic benefits to Schenectady from spending at hotels, restaurants and other businesses. Proctors said the second figure is based on a Touring Broadway League report that says impact typically is about three times ticket sales.
The Lion King has since moved on to Rochester, N.Y., where performances will begin March 22 and run through April 17. After that, the show goes to Toronto, Dayton, Ottawa and Montreal.

There is nothing typical about the slums of Scumnectady. No hard numbers given, just an estimate based on typical impact. I would bet that typical would be Toronto, Ottawa and Motreal NOT Scumnecturdy.
so how much in hotel tax was collected??? food tax??? liquor tax??? etc etc.........there better be $$ for snow removal and repaving all over.... how about the CAFR??????? show me the $$$ trail

SCHENECTADY ‘Lion King’ a $15M boon to city BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Proctors’ production of Disney’s “The Lion King” had an estimated $15 million impact on the city’s economy, according to promoters. The sold-out, four-week run concluded Sunday and grossed more than $5.2 million at the box office. Roughly 77,000 patrons attended the 32 performances at Proctors Theatre. Philip Morris, Proctors’ chief executive officer, estimated that the production generated a $15 million economic benefi t to Schenectady. This total reflects money spent on travel, hotels, restaurants, parking and other businesses utilized by both theatergoers and production staff. “Because of ‘The Lion King’ ’s popularity, we have been able to provide a substantial benefi t to the economy, while reaching out to new audiences and introducing new generations of theatergoers to the performing arts in our community,” Morris said in a statement released Tuesday. Morris said the show was basically sold out, with more than 99 percent of the 2,460 seats for the production purchased. That tops the previous percentage from “Wicked” last year. The total audience count for “Wicked” was slightly higher, but more seats were available for the show. Some areas were off-limits for The Lion King because production equipment took up a signifi - cant amount of space. Businesses asked about the economic impact of the show all indicated that they saw increased activity during performances. One owner estimated that the show increased sales by 10 percent over the previous year’s figures. ............................>>>>.................................>>>>...........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01304&AppName=1
Which businesses are on the record for this alleged $15 million dollar imact?!? The Proctors ticket sales are totally tax free and not one penny comes back to the City or the taxpayers.
Who came up with a $15 million dollar figure? The Proctors Cheif Executive Officer?? That's like the vast majority of Metroplex press releases, full of fluff and no facts. This Gazette article has absolutely no businesses listed and no real numbers attached.
Here's a suggestion, get some hard facts before writing an article.
at least they came to Schenectady -- they would never come to rotterdump -- too many losers there
Hey smokey............people are flocking to rotterdam for it's SENIOR CENTER and the RECOVERY GRILL and hell, there are banks EVERYWHERE!! Rotterdam is the 'gem of the county'!!
Although I'd like it broken down in exactly where these millions went. 10% increase for a business isn't really a bank buster!! Nor did the 'alleged' millions decrease the property taxes for the already overburdened taxpayers.

OH,,,,brother...... Rotterdam is a rinky dinky town.....and if it doesn't wake up will be cleaning up the crap the city is forking over the lines for a long time...and could end up like the city.....look how all those banks helped out the city........

Here's the differences in being a landlord in Rotterdam as opposed to being a landlord in Schenectady.
1. When a prospective tenant calls about one of my Schenectady apartments for rent, they usually begin the sentence, "I need to ax..."
2. When tenants call and ask about which school district the apatment is in, the Schenectady landlord will get a hang up and the Rotterdam landlord will get a "Thank goodness you're not in the Schenectady school system!"
3. The Schenectady Landlord will be asked "Do you take Section 8...do you take blah blah blah"
4. Usually the tenant for a Schenectady apartment will ask (ax) if their pit pull is welcome. It's usually phrased that they have a 'mixed breed'.
Overall, there is no way Rotterdam can even be compared to the dump and cesspool Schenectady has become. Many years ago, I was able to pick out some great tenants, but now, well no one with common sense, children or who value their safety will even move into the City.
It doesn't matter how much money the Lion King brings into the City - the place is a sewer and the rats and cockroaches are calling the shots. None of this alleged $15 million will find it's way back into the neighborhoods. It's already spent on a new Proctors cafe.
Very well stated rachel. And although most surrounding towns are fairing better than the city, the city dump is overflowing it's boarders. The landscape of rotterdam is clearly changing!!! Just 'ax' 'em!

It is only fitting that the Lion King was brought to you courtesy of the Lyin' King.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
"One owner estimated business was up 10%"?-WTF? Who? Where? When? Another new low from the People's Gazetto.
It generated millions for Disney and Mercury Morris-while the County taxpayers got the middle finger. If things are so peachy keen start paying a modest PILOT. No! It is not the right time to pay back the taxpayers, blah, blah, blah. Then they have the brass to compare Schenectady to Montreal. Delusional-making up figures knowing the idiots in the press will dutifully report without questioning.
