Rotterdam contracted with William M. Larned & Sons to fix a pair of water pipes last week, while the town crews and equipment normally used for such repairs sat idle, a union official said. Conard Johnson, the president of Rotterdam’s CSEA chapter, said hiring a private contractor for jobs that can be completed by Public Works or Highway Department workers is a violation of the town’s collective bargaining agreement. He filed seven grievances against the Rotterdam last week, claiming town officials wrongly contracted out the work while leaving their own employees without work. “There was no need to contract it out,” he said Monday. “This was a waste of taxpayers money.” Larned was called on to repair a leaking valve on a 20-inch water main off Burdeck Street on Tuesday. Johnson said the town had all the resources to complete the job, which was planned in advance and wasn’t considered an emergency repair. Town officials contracted with Larned again on Wednesday, when an 8-inch water main off Helderberg Avenue began leaking. Let's face it sal...most of them do the same thing at one time or another...and keep getting re-elected. In this particular matter, FDG is playing the tyrant....the rest of the Board agreed to put workers back in their positions...and as the article states, FDG turned around and ordered them back to the shuffled positions...and he acted alone in doing this. FDG is having a hard time working with this group, and would have the same difficulty being just one in any group of decision makers...he needs to learn that Town Governement is not DelGallo Pools...he cannot do whatever he wants...and that ultimately, he will be held answerable for these solo act decisions that oppose or reverse those group decisions.
Why isn't ND quoted sticking up for the taxpayers? She's been awfully quiet lately...skipped a meeting, not talking about issues...is this all KR's advice? It aint workin

They campaigned on FDG running the town like a business! What they failed to admit, was that it was the DEM/CON parties business agenda they wanted.
FDG was never supervisor material!! But he is clearly no sucker either! He is as dumb as a fox that was played and set up by the dem/con parties and the candidates who ran with him.
Now because of their total failure, they have no candidates left. They are now crawling to buffardi in hopes that he will bail them out!!

I, too, am not a fan of FDG but there HAS to be more to this story. Again I ask, does he have the right to trump the rest of the board. I thought his vote was equal to that of the others on the board.
Sounds like who is ever running the Public Works office is making the Super look bad or trying to. I would like to hear from the head honcho there instead of no comment or unavailable for comment. No transperancy whats so ever in that den of dirty dealers. Former Dem Chairman in charge I hear but that office is a collection of cronys and nepotism anyways. Very political and dirty! Talk about corrupt!

Supervisor Frank Del Gallo vehemently disputes a union claim suggesting Rotterdam privately contracted water pipe work last week instead of allowing town workers to make the repair. Del Gallo said both the repairs on ruptured pipes off Burdeck Street and Helderberg Avenue required machinery the town doesn’t own. He said William M. Larned & Sons was selected for the repairs because the company had completed similar work for the town in the past. “The job was too big for us, so we called Larned in,” he said Wednesday. Del Gallo said both repairs constituted an emergency, which closed roads and disrupted residential water service. During the 22-hour repair on Burdeck Street, he said several town Highway Department workers fl agging traffi c refused overtime and left once their shift ended. “Nobody lost any work,” he said. Bryan Goldberger, the town’s labor attorney, said the seven grievances filed by workers claim Rotterdam violated “past practices” by contracting out the work. He said this assertion ignores a long history the town has with handling ruptured pipes. “The practice appears to be we bring in qualifi ed contractors when the water main break is significant,” he said.
