The Dems lost face....the Reps lost 'friends'....they are BOTH one in the same....

If the polls were so in favor of Dems and the Unions, why did the Democrat Senators stay holed up out of state to avoid a vote?  I'll tell you why, because party pollsters study the internals of the polls, and it wasn't looking good for the Democrats.  The media in conjunction with the Democrat party and Obama's Organizing for America went on a PR campaign to turn public opinion to their side.  And guess what???  The needle didn't move and the campaign failed.  Just like Obamacare, which in the process of being thrown out.

Nice try. I hope you didn't hurt yourself with all of those contortions.

The issue is much simpler than you claim. The Democrats left the state because without a quorum, the bill could not be voted on. If they had stayed, they all of course would have voted against the bill, but the bill would have passed and any protests would have occurred after the fact. By leaving the state, the Democrats exposed the anti-union aspects of the bill  and gave protesters and the media weeks to focus on it.

Of course, the portion of the bill that strips collective bargaining was finally passed when the Republicans separated it from the budgetary portion of the bill. The reason this worked was because bills that do not deal with budgetary items does not require a quorum. This legislative trick exposed the Republicans' lie: that the collective bargaining rights needed to be reigned in because of the state's deficit.

As for the needle not moving, tell that to the 100,000 protesters in WI this weekend. I'm pretty sure that's bigger than any of the Tea Party rallies that Fox News breathlessly reported on.

We will see... The recall efforts against the republican senators is getting all the press, but there are recall efforts starting for more than half of the Democrats that left the state. In the end, I doubt much changes.
The reason the 'pubs pulled the end-around is to get by the quorum and bring the Dems back, and it worked. You would have to be an idiot not to know this was just as much about dealing with the public employees in the future as it was for the present. Do I think the gov't should have taken away bargaining rights? No! A better solution if it was possible, was to force a dissolution of the Unions and start over. At least it would take few years before the self-serving corruption at the upper levels of union administration set in.
