Politics aside, Rotterdam still a can-do community

Rotterdam’s town leadership has certainly been taking its hits lately, but not all is doom and gloom.
With all the political shenanigans going on, there are many good things happening in town. Applications for new apartments are going to the zoning and planning board, a new sports bar and restaurant has opened in an old, rundown strip mall, as well as many other things. These are indicators that people still want to live in Rotterdam, and that it is a destination for people throughout the area. What this means is that people from other communities are spending money in Rotterdam!
Another plus for the town is the new kitchen recently built in the Rotterdam Senior Citizens Center. I am not sure if the seniors know that the town supervisor donated his salary for this project. He also organized the volunteers and purchased the Sheetrock from his personal finances — a very generous gesture in times when business is suffering.
Having sat through a few town board meetings, it is clear that when the fi ve members of the board can agree and work together, many good things can be accomplished for the residents. They don’t have to agree on every issue. No one would expect that, but a word of advice to Ms. Nicola DiLeva and her young friend, Mr. Matt Martin: You can disagree without being disagreeable. Listening to some of the rhetoric is disturbing and disrespectful to the other elected officials. This needs to cease, or they need to be replaced. The residents I have spoken to find this type of ranting offensive.
As a resident and concerned citizen, I would encourage the five board members to come together and continue to get good things done without concern for their own political ambitions.

With all due respect, the public has no idea of the dynamics or lack thereof regarding proceedings.  If you had the time and attended every Agenda meeting and TB meeting, you would just get a smidgen of the problems the Board members face with lack of transparency amongst themselves, never mind the Town.  Although I am not a fan of any of the TB, I will defend and accept  the aforementioned behavior based on the unimaginable frustration these members undergo for virtually little recognition and pay.  You don't take one of those jobs to get rich or famous, you serve to try to make a positive difference.  Putting yourself in their shoes, you would exhibit the same frustrations, it's only human nature.  Rather than criticizing them, why not find out why they are kept in the dark on most Town issues and decisions?  Sometimes understanding one side of the coin is knowing the other side!

The Street says the whole bunch are going to be tossed out. They are not picking and choosing which clique they like better.

I guess you need to talk to "members of the public without a vested political interest" (other than a FAT tax bill getting shoved up their kiester) if you want a better definition. I interact with them about 6-7 days per week, so I hear things. And furthermore, I am not even sure what party Dileva is in since she quit the Republicans, joined the cops, ran under the democrap flag and now after bashing the living $hit out of the republicans wants to come BACK to the republicans. She changes outfits more than Coco Chanel. WTF. I guess she is running a as a democrap since she has little traction with the GOP rank and file. She never should have quit the GOP but she listened to the chief and his bro. Oh well.

You know that I do that all the time, GB...and that I go out of my way to avoid the "copservatives", as you call them.

ND never joined the cops...has no allegiance to the "Democraps"...never suggested she would re-enlist with the GOP...and when
did she "bash" your Party?? As I mentioned earlier in another post...ND already told the Kratz to buzz off when they told her they
want her to carry their Board ticket...any day now the Kratz will respond to that rejection by claiming they are the ones who want
nothing to do with her.

Ask the Hamiltons...when was the last time they talked to her? lol

BM went from Rep to Con to NNTP (which isn't a Party) to Rep/NNTP (which isn't a Party)...and if you think his camp has any respect
for your club you are sadly mistaken...which begs the question...why would they want the support of that camp...or  the copservatives,
for that matter? Last I knew he intended to seek their support, too - lol.

BT's "guessing" bug must be contagious. Things aren't always as they seem...and I would have thought that you of all people
would know that GB.

It is really too early in schenectady county in this election year to compare one prospective candidate with another. There are no opposing candidates yet!!!

And the point here is that the 'members of the public' aren't looking to political parties for 'who' they are going to endorse or who they are not. They are looking at what is in front of them 'right now'! They are asking themselves if their life, their neighborhood/school/town/city,their job, their tax bills are better now than before.

The electorate is changing and are growing impatient. They are tired of either years of dysfunction and/or campaign promises that never came to fruition.

So getting into a spitting match on what party is going to endorse whoever is a moot point! Cause you can rest assure that the 'members of the public' already know who they won't vote for......countywide!!!

It's a formality before waging a primary and taking the message to the rank and file...I told you, the way the parties set up the system in NYS, it forces you to play the game the way the rules are written to get on the ballot.  And they are written that way to protect party leadership.

With the outcome of the referendum turning out the way it did,,,BM could primary for EVERY party line and have a good chance of winning.  Since NONE of the parties represented on the Town Board(Dem/Rep/Con) publicly voiced opposition for the taxing district, and ALL voted YES to create the taxing district that WENT DOWN IN FLAMES!

But guess what candidates did publicly oppose the taxing district???

09. What is "vig"?

Vig, which is short for vigorish, is a term used to describe the book's theoretical edge, or commission, on each betting online wager. It is also sometimes referred to as the book's hold, particularly when looking at futures markets. For spread betting, balanced action would result in 11 dollars bet on each side (as an example) for a total of 22. As long as there isn't a push, the winner would be paid 21 and the book would keep 1. This 1/22 that is the book's commission is called the vig.

Most express it as a percentage. In this case, for spread betting, it is 4.545%. To compare to some popular casino gambling games, the vig in craps is approx. 1/72 (1.389%) and in roulette gambling it is 2/38 (5.26%) on a double zero wheel. It is a representation of the house's long term betting edge over time based on the mathematics of the game. Each and every gambling strategy has this "vig" inherent in it, barring a push.

In order for a bettor to win, he must win an adjusted percentage high enough to overcome or counteract this vig. For spread betting, at typical "lay prices" of -110 each way, that magic number is 52.38%. This break even percentage is what you need to surpass long term to win.

One interesting side note is that the farther away from even a money sports betting line goes, if the differential is held constant, the less vig is inherent. That is, the sports book is skimming a higher percentage of the players' money (assuming balanced action) on sports betting lines of -110/-110 than -130/+110, -160/+140, etc. This is why books have "break points" along the way where the differential is increased. So it might be a 20 cent differential up to -149/+129, then a 30 cent differential up to -199/+169, then 40 cents, etc.

A place like Canbet is a little unusual in that it keeps the vig percentage constant, so the differential expands gradually, making all the sport bedding odds along the way identically favorable (except for slight rounding) to the -110/-110 starting point (-107/-107 for some sports). I can see the fairness in this, but obviously a bettor would prefer keeping the differential constant, as something like -200/+180 odds carries with it very little vig.

so what is the value of our taxes on return in NYS/Schenectady county/Rotterdam....????? anyone want to make a wager???? the politicos do and it's all
with unjust weighted scales.......

I am tired of them pitting the 'rich'(what ever the hell that means) against the 'poor'(what ever the hell that means)....I know I have to pay for roads
lights/water and stuff like that....but what's mine is mine and what's yours is yours.....If I want to be uber-rich I can set out to do that OR not.....it's a
choice....stop using podium pucks and smoke a mirrors to try to make me think the government has an uber-giant heart.....just GET OFF MY BACK

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Why play the game of formality...BM is a Republican....he could skip the formalities, wage the Primary and go directly to the
rank and file...and everybody has to follow the same rules to get on the ballot...including the Party nominees.

I don't think the long over referendum alone will win any Primary...especially if the only argument is that one publicized their
position and another didn't.

The Tommasone administration voted to create the tax district...the rest was left to voters during the next administration...ST et al
are the ones who punted to those voters when they were shamed out of the more sly permissive referendum method.

Everybody knows the NNTP candidates voiced their opposition...their name was based on that opposition...but that was two
years ago and the NNTP still isn't a Party.

I would be glad to put my full backing for BM in a primary over a fence jumper who to this day doesn't even want to lower herself to ASK the party committee members of the party she turned her back on for their endorsement. But it was OK- Bobby H gave her orders and she followed them. But her political marriage isnt going well and she wants to come back to the republican bed. Sadly she wants to do it through the back door and she doesn't even need to ask Forgiveness. She thinks that because she is part of the Daggy set that she is above all of us low republicans. So she figures she can come home anytime. Since I am not a cuckhold, I say stay in bed with the democraps/copservatives and keep making love to the Obamites. She will never win a GOP primary.
