Obamacare already has the 'in home elder care' in place. It is unveiling as we speak. That is the future direction for elder care. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies are already gearing up and putting these directives in place for the future baby boomers. Nursing homes will become more like hospitals yet will also provide in home care. Which some do already. Schenectady county already provides in home elder care. Eddy already provides in home elder care. All nursing agencies offer in home elder care. There are doctors already gearing up to provide in home elder care visits.

Obamacare assessed this on COST.....not NEED!! Everyone can rest assured that this in home elder care will not be better in most cases.......just CHEAPER!!!

In contrast, the rotterdam senior center is nothing more than a social gossip center for folks who don't have, nor want a life beyond this 'gossip center'. The fact of the matter is, and I'm sure we can all agree, that the 'brass ring' is not needed when there are TWO, more than sufficient, diners right across the street.....at no expense to the taxpayers.

The senior gossip center should be closed and the rotterdam taxpayer's money should and could be spend on other pressing issues facing their town.

Obamacare has already addressed and has policies in place regarding the 'in home elder care' issue!!

And as a side note.......I highly doubt that the elderly from WWII want to rub elbows with the youth of today with their pants hanging below their a$$ and their tongue, nose and nipples pierced!!!

Dayhaven Adult Day Services

Dayhaven Adult Day Services has provided an alternative to nursing home placement to those elderly individuals in need of daily support and supervision. Dayhaven offers: supervision/monitoring, nutrition, social/recreation activities, transportation coordination, community outings, along with referrals to other agencies for senior services.

Caregiver Support

The program provides essential information, assistance, counseling, training and respite. The program for family caregivers helps sustain their efforts to care for an older relative who has a chronic illness or disability to help the older relative remain in the community rather than be placed in a residential facility. A Caregiver’s Resource Center, located on the first floor of Schaffer Heights, is available to access information & assistance, educational materials, informational support groups, and other caregiver services. CDTA Reduced Bus Fare Card Program

Photo Identification cards are issued for a fee to seniors 65 years of age or older and the disabled for reduced bus fare. Call 382-8481x1000 for more information.


EISEP (Expanded In-Home Services for the Elderly Program)

Provides the following services:
Housekeeper/Chore- PC Level I – Provides comprehensive assessment, case management, and in-home services for functionally impaired persons 60 years of age or older in Schenectady County.
Homemaker/PC Level II – Environmental and nutritional assistance to clients limited in their ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL's).
Adult Day Services/Respite – The Long Term Care Unit non-Medicaid clients will be assessed and case managed. Individuals identified as needing adult day services and/or non-institutional respite services, will be referred to the contracted social adult day services provider. These services will be specifically targeted to the most frail elderly whose caregivers require respite.

Glendale Home

Glendale Home, founded in 1936, has been the provider of choice to meet the needs of the residents in Schenectady County by providing skilled nursing and rehabilitation services to the citizens of our community. Our team of experienced professionals identifies the needs of our residents and assists in setting goals that reflect the background, interests and needs of each resident.  Physicians, nurses, therapists, dieticians, social workers and all other support staff are involved from the admission process through the entire stay of the resident. Regular evaluations of resident care allow the staff to adapt to changing conditions. Glendale Home invites all family and friends to remain active and involved in resident care. Health Insurance Information Counseling Assistance Program (HIICAP)

Provides support information, counseling, and assistance to people with Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplement insurance policies and other related health insurance benefit information. Services are provided by Catholic Charities Senior Services in Schenectady. Call 372-5667 for more information.

All home care services are designed to insure the health and safety of elderly, infirm, or disabled individuals by providing a range of home based services which assist in maintaining the recipient at home. Home Energy Assistance Program

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federally funded energy assistance program. Applications are taken at the Department of Social Services, at the Schenectady County Office of Senior and Long-Term Care Services for clients 60 years of age an older. Home Fuel Rebate Program

This county-funded program provides for a one-time tax rebate in the amount of up to $100.00 for qualifying senior homeowners and renters who reside in Schenectady County. To qualify for this program you must be:
A resident of Schenectady County
60 years of age or older
Directly responsible for the cost of the home heating fuel natural gas, coal, wood, propane (except when sold in containers of less than one hundred pounds) and/or electricity used to heat his/her primary household and is verified by the Department of Senior and Long Term Care Services.
Either a household size of one with a maximum income of $35,000 or a household size of two or more with a maximum income level of $40,000.
Ineligible to receive any other public assistance for their home energy costs.

Legal Assistance

Provides legal assistance to low income elderly who are 60 years of age or older at the Schenectady County Department of Senior and Long Term Care Services. Typical services offered include power of attorney, resolution of consumer complaints, frauds, landlord/tenant disputes, spousal responsibility and preparation of living wills and other legal guidance as needed. Long Term Care Insurance Outreach and Education Program

The Schenectady County Department of Senior and Long Term Care Services operates a Long Term Care Insurance Resource Center and can assist you with your questions about selecting and purchasing Long Term Care Insurance. This program does not recommend any specific long term care insurance plan or insurance agent. Call the Resource Center at 935-3065 for more information.

Home delivered meals are for those seniors in Schenectady County who are unable to prepare and/or otherwise access meals on their own. Meals are individually packaged and delivered to meet the weekday nutritional needs of 1 or 2 meals daily. These meals are delivered by Catholic Charities Senior Services. The Dining Centers operate weekly Monday-Friday (except Delanson and Kosher locations at Jewish Community Center which operate M-W-F). Reservations are requested one day in advance. Please call the Dining Centers between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Suggested donation is $3.25 per meal. Food Stamps are accepted. No one is denied for inability or unwillingness to contribute. These dining centers are operated by Catholic Charities Senior Services.

Protective Services for Adults

Protective Services for Adults (PSA) is a New York State-mandated program which is provided without regard to income. PSA assists adults age 18 or older who, because of mental or physical impairment, can no longer provide for their basic needs for food, clothing, shelter, or medical care, or protect themselves from neglect, abuse, or hazardous situations, and who have no one willing and able to help in a responsible manner. Transportation

Catholic Charities of Schenectady County provides transportation from an individual's residence to the nearest dining center and includes weekday and weekend grocery shopping trips, as well as transportation to and from medical appointments. Hey BT I WAS THE CHAIR OF THE SENIOR AND LONGTERM CARE ADVISORY COUNCIL.  The Council under CAthy Bern Smith was more effective.  Its arubber-stamp council now.

You are not telling me anything I don't know.  I have the same book you are citing from the web.  You are mixing apples and oranges in lots of ways.  First LOOK at all the things OTHER towns provide--let's just start with the transportation.  And those towns DON'T offer free trips.  You pay for that transporation.  Why are you so against the Rotterdam Center becoming what it should be--because you could give a rat's a$$ about the seniors in this town.

BT you have brought up the gossip problem at the Center several times.  What do you care what people are saying there unless it is unflattering to you.  How about closing Zoller school because the teachers are incompetent.

Zoller School used to be one of the good ones.  Not as good as Howe School but fairly good.  Alley you may be correct but they did have a good rep. (as in reputation NOT Republican)LOL

BT--also you should know that NY Connects has been defunded.  Was funded by DOH for NYSOFA.  Schdy County Eisep is filled.  They haven't taken anyone new in a long while.  In order to get Eisep you have to delete someone who is getting it.  I would check with StateWide Senior Action Council before I post some of this stuff.  Just because it is in a book doesn't make it current.  As for "kosher" location.  The only ones are at the JCC Albany and Schenectady.  The Schenectady program is shared by Catholic Charities.  Money fluctuates.  First the State took away money from congregate dining and gave more to home-delivered meals.  Now switched back again.  The Ten Eyck feeds a lot seniors--more than I have seen in other centers.  Granted they have a captive audience.  But still a lot of seniors.

You are trying to promote programs as NEW programs when in fact they have been around for sometime. There are also new programs coming on the horizon that will be incorporated into the already existing ones.

The rotterdam 'gossip center' can and should be closed!  I would guanrentee that those folks and rotterdam will do just fine and in fact better for it if it closed. There are more than enough 'GOV ALMIGHTY' programs already functioning in schenectady county that address the 'elderly'. Not to mention all of the non-profits!!

Seniors along with everyone else who will need assistance will just become collateral damage from the results of obamacare!!
This is all pre-orchestrated.

Rotterdam screwed themselves.  It was Nisky that was identified as the next NNORC in the State.  Rotterdam/Mt. Pleasant was next.  For reasons that cannot be discussed on this board, one organization that was working toward that end, abandoned it.  We worked for a longtime to convene a group of collaborators to form a coalition similar to Albany to meet the needs of Schdy County seniors.  I WENT to the top and lobbied for it.  Money was available under community empowerment grants.  Schdy County dragged their feet.

Grants are a one time boost of taxpayer money. But what happens when the grant money is gone? Schenectady county would have lost in the end anyway. Once the grant money was gone....so would the program since there is NO MONEY TO FUND IT!!!
This country, state and county has hit the wall. They hit the breaking point and the taxpayers can not afford another tax or program. And the government knew well in advance that this was going to happen.
