We Are The Model
Pat Zollinger

I have always believed that our “government” is supposed to be working for the people. You and me, the little guys out here, the unappreciated taxpayer. But there are those who simply poke fun at our government and at times I too have been among them. After all, for the most part our elected leaders, those we pull a lever or blacken in a circle for are on par to local ambulance chasing lawyers, right? For the most part, that’s exactly what they are.

But one reporter/columnist in particular, one who seems to thrive on argument even if it’s due to his own ignorance strikes me as someone who draws these controversial issues out of thin air. He creates them, feeds them and then provokes laughter and merriment at the expense of simple folk. The “angry ones” as he describes them; the religious right and the conservative nut-balls that he continues to make fun of through the power of the written word and the newspaper that runs him.

Carl Strock’s column on February 1st dealt with the New York State Conservative Party’s “Political Action Conference” and I was disappointed that he didn’t bring up Schenectady’s Conservative Party. Instead he “hied himself over” to immerse himself in its placid wisdom.  Well, don’t injure yourself Carl; it’s obvious that you chose to use this venue only to poke fun at who you perceive to be nothing less than a bunch of ignorant farmers and trailer trash.

I can’t think of a better group of people so count me in as one of them.............>>>>............>>>>........http://www.schenectadyinformer.com/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1296657452/

Great response from Pat. I hope she runs again, we need some common sense in the council.

I'm a registered Democrat but don't vote party line, I vote the person who I feel will do right for our city, state and country. I voted for Pat in the last election and will vote for her again. As Mr. Farley stated at the county legislative meeting when Mr. Burmaster was thrown out of the IDA , we need transparency, and we are not getting it in the rubber stamp council of Sch'dy we have now.

She understands hard work, understands how the city is suffering and is not afraid to open her mouth : )

Excellent letter Pat !!!

Carl tries to make fun of true believers and conservatives. He got whupped in a debate on creationism at SCCC by some "knuckle dragging" {his term} preacher and has never gotten over that. The crowd booed him off the stage. He should stick to Clifton Park politics.

As far as Pat Z there will be at least 2 open City Council seats in the Fall. She did very well with no party and little funding last November. Pat is just what the doctor ordered for this pathetic legislative body. We need one Council person to "serve the people" not serve up the people.
