Well, I guess we can't really decide this issue on Mr. Stratton as mayor anymore.  Maybe this will be one of the major changes in Schenectady.  Maybe when they load up the snow to truck it away, they can dump it into the canal system.

I'm confused.

The mayor says he does not declare snow emergencies to save money...

But now instead, the city has to go around doing snow removal...  They use to do this in the middle of the night (overtime?), I'm not sure about now.

I just don't see how a snow emergency can cost more than how it is currently being handled...

Me neither.
I don't think Albany declares them just for giggles, because I'm pretty sure that it's the quickest, most efficient, and  most cost effective way of doing it.

Snow removal is usually done in about a day, and by removal, I mean removal,  not burying the sidewalks under snow banks.
They put it in dump trucks, take it down to "the snow dock", and dump it in the river.
By the way, the taxes are much lower than Schenectady.

I live in Woodlawn, just a couple of blocks into Niskayuna, and our streets are clean, and pot hole free.

If I go 2 blocks down, into Schenectady, the roads look like a bob sled run with craters.

That's one of the myriad of reasons why you'll never see a consolidation of services, because we don't want to participate in Schenectady's stupidity, and misery, and after all, we wouldn't want to interfere with the squalor, and an economic outlook that resembles The Black Hole Of Calcutta.

As it is, our volunteer fire departments now  have to assist with fires in Schenectady, because they thought it was a pretty good idea to spend "their" money on the Metroplex debacle, pension padding, and cops that sleep in their cars for $160k a year.

I know a couple of Niskayuna cops, and when I asked them about consolidation, one just chuckled, and the other gave me a look of horror.

If there is ever  a serious talk about consolidation in this area, and it's already been mentioned, we'll secede to South Colonie (Albany County), and it wouldn't be that much of a stretch, as we are already paying South Colonie School taxes, and I'm pretty sure they will welcome us with open arms, especially considering the tax revenues that Mohawk Commons, and Avon Crest generate.

Property that's worth a damn?
Go figure.

I don't see the state legislature allowing Woodlawn to secede from the city.

I don't think they (the legislature) would be given that choice.
Redristrickting is not a new  thing, and we have money, and surely you must know by now, how politics work.

The area of Niskayuna Woodlawn that I'm in, only involves about 4 blocks.

The owners of Mohawk Commons, and the people of Avon Crest, however, would most certainly have something to say about it if they thought that they were about to sample the many splendors of Hamilton Hill.

Well, today is Saturday (thus overtime) and while in my travels, I witnessed three or four big dump trucks doing removal from a State St side street in the hill area.

Changing the city's boundaries has NOTHING to do with redistricting.

There is a legal procedure that must be followed to change municipal boundaries -- and at some point the state legislature would have to pass a resolution allowing for a vote to change the boundaries.

Also -  Mohawk Commons and Avon Crest are not in Woodlawn -- but Niskayuna.

Finally, every city, town and county in the state was created by an act of the state legislature --- the state legislature can consolidate, abolish, redraw the lines of any of these government entities.    It could also do what Massachusetts did --- and eliminate the county level of government all together ...

so .. my point stands ...  Woodlawn will remain a part of the current city of Schenectady until the city is either dissolved or a larger city-county is created.

Driving through the Hill today and it was still a mess.  The roads are still narrow but the snow is melting.  On the corner of Brandywine and Duane, its pretty well flooded.  On one hand its a good thing its melting, but on the other hand, it created another hazzard.  The kids walking have to go around the flooding and into the streets.

Only after all the millionaires are given there handout from the taxpayers.  Oh yeah, and those millionaires wouldn't dream of spending money to clean them.

How about those millionaires clearning the bus stops on their properties.    Better yet, how about DV clean the bus stops, he doesn't have a job

with a giant magnifying glass that sits atop all city trucks and vehicles in which the elected/hired city officials must drive for 5 hours
around city streets after a snowfall totaling 5inches or more.....they may also zap plebs as McCarthy did, anytime they see fit....

They should put the Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity to work on a chain gang .. shoveling the snow and cleaning the bus stops --- then they can clean the  city swimming pools during the summer.

Hey, we all have jobs and pay taxes, and live as responsible independent adults on our own earnings.

You don't have a job, you should do it.  Hey, did you go shovel the sidewalks around your church's old school buidling?   Probably not....why not?????

You have no job, you have all the time in the world to shovel for them.
