OMG this morning was absolutely nuts.  I couldnt get down half of the roads I needed to and got stuck twice.  The side roads in the Hil were NOT plowed at all and cars were everywhere.  There wasnt even a lane open regardless of parked cars.  This afternoon was worse.  I need to get a camera because it was unreal.  Stanley street looks like a war zone and there are cars buried and you cant get through.  Emmett Street is buried in.  Albany Street is BARELY a two lane road.  I couldnt even get coffee this morning because that was all blocked off.  Buses were stuck and one was being towed out of a snowbank.  WTF???   >

Don't know what section of Albany St you are talking about, but we came down Hamburg to Watt St and wanted to cut over to Albany St.  Somehow we missed Bigelow and wound up turning on to some suburban looking street, it's where MCCathan is, it's one of those college names, a street where everyone has driveways and no cars parked on the street.  Well, the plow made one lane only, so here comes an oncoming car, no lie, we had to pull into a driveway to let the car go by.  Further down, someone pulled over into that road going into the welfare project there so we could go by this time.   Try to imagine where the sidewalk is there on Albany St.  When the city plowed the street, maybe it was doing Albany St, who knows, they plowed six foot high snow banks across the sidewalk and right to the very curb.  We nearly got hit trying to come out of the street because you absolutely could not see on coming cars (eastbound, which is the turn we were going to make) unless the whole front of your car was in the intersection.  Thank goodness no one was behind us so we could back up.  Finally our son got out and guided us out of the street.   Now, I defy ANYONE to justify WHY a city should make things so very very dangerous that a passenger has to get out to see if cars are coming.  What if someone doesn't have a passenger?  I can see better trying to drive around in that curvy Hannaford/Walmart area with their mounds of snow!

Yeah, so we turned onto Albany St and and finally opted to turn onto the Crosstown (to Balltown Rd to come back to Mohawk Commons)   But that section of Albany, allegedly a priority street, was barely enough for two lanes, barely enough for two cars to go in opposite direction.  Can you imaginewhat it's like at Gibbons coming out of school or at St Pauls if there is a funeral!   YIKES.

What minds choose to handle snow plowing likke that.  And the city plows deposit some 5 to 6 foot high snow bank?????    Can someone tell me what kind of leadership this dem team has that they plow like this?

I wish I had the camera with me.   Would love to find the time to go back and take photos there

And Valentines Day is coming.  The candy is so good there.  The owner really need to get on the city's butt to clean up the streets.  As a good and responsible businessman, I'll be his parking lot is cleared well.

Same here, although  Krause's on Central Ave in Colonie is also outstanding.
I'll still be going to Uncle Sams though, because regardless of how you view my political opinions, I'm trying to keep my money in Schenectady, and yes, Uncle Sam's pays taxes.

When I went to Bishop Gibbons, (back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth) it was our candy store.

It was Albany Street in the area of the Hill across Brandywine and a little further towards the Crosstown.  There were some bigger trucks trying to get through and some buses and they couldnt make it.  I turned down McClyman and couldnt get through.  Had to turn into a driveway and back out.  Of course there were others coming so the wait was a long time before I was able to get back onto Albany Street.  Emmett Street and McClyman intersection is where I got stuck this morning.  It wasnt plowed at all even by 4pm.  Stanley Street off of Duane Ave was nearly completely blocked.  Cars in the street and snow banks where the cars were.  It was a mess.  And the crossing guards were parked in the streets and the buses couldnt get around them.  What were they thinking?  But I did notice that all of the side streets off of Curry Road were nice and clean.  Even with cars parked on the streets, they were wide enough for two way traffic.

It just boggles the mind that there are so many people in the areas that I was in this morning that have driveways but dont park in them.  They park on the streets and then complain because the plows buried their cars.  So they dig them out into the streets and leave HUGE snow banks where the cars were.  And then they have the stupidity to park IN the middle of the street because they STILL cant park in their driveways or the spot they were in.  Does it really take a lot of brains to just use the driveway?  Why bother having one if you dont use it?

When I lived in city limits, I made sure that my driveway was clean and the area of road in front of my house.  There were times that I did park in the street because the snow sliding off the steep roof would damage the cars.  But I made sure it was clear, the hydrant was clear and the corner where the drain was clear.  Even though the house next door was empty, I cleaned the sidewalk in front of both houses to the corner.  And then did the ones across the street for the old couple that lived there.

I guess I was raised with respect for myself, my property and my neighbors.  Isnt that what you are supposed to do?

I'm _not_ making excuses for some of these idjits that park on the streets, but when I lived in the city limits, our driveway was between two houses and our garage a little further back. When the snow came off the two roofs, it piled right into our driveway, leave a HUGE pile, impossible to get through for work, until it was cleared. Parking more toward the street, but still in the driveway, was a significant incline.  If the plows came and did the street once, it left another huge mess to get through before going to work.  Parking in the street was the lesser of the 3 evils, though I never worried too much with my truck, or when I had a plow.  Fortunately, I wasn't in that house long (2yrs I think).

The people I don't understand are in the Ellis Hospital area.  They all have access via an alleyway, many with garages .. maybe it's because the alley isn't plowed as a priority? Maybe landlords don't give garage access to renters? I don't know - but it sure causes a mess with the plows.

Oh, but after being criticized for his total lack of leadership ikn this city, Stratton gets carl Olson to say in the paper that they concentrate on the "priority streets" and that way, well, you're only a few blocks away from those streets.  Yeah, but you STILL have to be able to get to those main streets.

DV supports Stratton.  DV thinks the streets in the city are cleaned very well, that side streets are just "problematic."  The definition of "problematic" is:  having the nature or appearance of a problem.     DV thinks there is appearnce of a problem but not really a problem.

Stratton fails to lead, fails to declare a snow emergency, thus fails to get streets plowed properly, buses get stuck and need to be towed.  But Stratton said it costs too much money to do a snow emergency.  But there is money to be given to the millionaires.  Do you see a problem with that DV??????   No money for absolute vital essential services for the taxpayers, but there is money to give to the the millionaire political cronies downtown.  Explain that one.

You are so full of crap -- it is coming out your ears.   You know very well what I posted about the latest snowstorm and yet -- you continue to lie.    You are a pathological a**hole.

If Uncle Sam's changes ownership,  I would patronize the store.   But after its owner insulted my aunts, I wouldn't even give the turd the time of day.

True. The absolute A**hole that currently runs the place, is one of the reasons I stopped posting on the Schenectady Informer website.
That, and somebody decided that it was a pretty good idea to divide it into 20 different threads, as if all that nonsense needs to be all that specialized, and there are 20 million people posting.
When I first started going there, (Uncle Sam's) he was probably still asking his mommy where babies come from.

I forget the guy's name, but the phrase "douche nozzle" comes to mind.
Thank You for reminding me.

Actually, now that I contemplate it, I'll be going to Krause's, as they have a much larger selection, and are vastly superior in every way.
Thinking about it, screw Schenectady. They don't care about me, so I don't care about them.
I'll take my money elsewhere, just like everybody else.

We don't eat candy anyway.   If we feel like indulging in something sweet, our favorite places  are in Glenville and Kent, Ct  ( I can't mention names because the administrators only allow us to name  businesses that their buddies own ).
I can give a few hints --
the place in Glenville is owned by a nice young couple from Rotterdam and is in thelittle plaza across from the Glenville Town Hall ,
and the place in Kent, CT  is run by a pastry chef from Belgium and his wife  -- right on Route 7  .. just a short distance from the late James Cagney's favorite restaurant.

I'm confused.

The mayor says he does not declare snow emergencies to save money...

But now instead, the city has to go around doing snow removal...  They use to do this in the middle of the night (overtime?), I'm not sure about now.

I just don't see how a snow emergency can cost more than how it is currently being handled...
