Despite the fact that Mubarak has a heavy hand in Egypt, he has been an ally to the U.S. and has made special efforts to quell radical Muslim groups from gaining a foothold in this very strategic part of the world.

The only disagreement is on the "Texas presidential decades" -- the fact is that the US began its murky relationship with oil-rich Middle Eastern nations at least as far back as the 1950's. Every president since then - Democrat and Republican - has become gradually more and more beholden to these nations. I would also point out that the former Democratic presidential nominee - Al Gore - inherited and made at least 10 times more wealth from oil than George HW Bush, George W Bush and Dick Cheney COMBINED. Our dependence on oil ---- and more importantly -- foreign oil -- has been fed by the greed of Democrats and Republicans who made fortunes in oil and/or depended heavily on oil money to get elected to Congress and the White House.
That is why I have to echo Sarah Palin's statement about domestic oil "drill - baby - drill ". We have more than enough of our own oil to not have to depend on foreign oil. And then we need to invest in nuclear,natural gas, clean coal, solar, wind and every other kind of renewable energy source that we get our hands on.

We have the oil -- and except for the Gulf oil spill -- the industry has been tremendously safe over the years. The final report on the cause of that oil spill has not come out yet. There are already indications that it was not as bad as some would think. Furthermore, the greater failure was the Federal Government's response ---- over 15 years ago a plan was adopted to deal with oil spills and its recommendations were never implemented or barely implemented. That is why there were not enough booms available to contain the oil spill early on. That is why the EPA waited almost 2 weeks before sending a disaster response ship (one that was tied up doingEarth Day ceremonies) ... and that is why the Federal government screwed up many times over telling Louisiana it could not put protective devices in place for its coast ------ thank God that Mississippi told the Federal government to f' off and put the devices in place anyway.
Drill oil --- wherever it is. Drill natural gas -- wherever it is. Build 100 nuclear power plants. Invest in clean coal and allow it to be mined. Invest in solar, wind and renewable resources.
We need all the energy resources we can get our hands on to build a prosperous economy.

why cant we find a way to mine oil via recently deceased.....it is a fossil fuel....why cant we 'donate' our bodies to the energy cause.....then we wont be taking up precious real estate with caskets and crap like that......

The U.S. Embassy is recommending Americans in Egypt consider leaving the country as soon as possible.
The Sunday morning travel warning says U.S. citizens should avoid travel to Egypt because of unrest, violence, and ongoing demonstrations against President Hosni Mubarak's government.
The U.S. was offering evacuation flights to Europe for any U.S. citizens who want to leave Egypt, Reuters reported.
"The U.S. Embassy in Cairo informs U.S. citizens in Egypt who wish to depart that the Department of State is making arrangements to provide transportation to safehaven locations in Europe," a statement by the embassy said.

Turkey was evacuating about 750 citizens and the Chinese government warned against travel to Egypt. Private tour groups and corporations began trying to evacuate their clients and expatriate employees. But dozens of flights were canceled and delayed and crowds filled Cairo International Airport, desperate and unable to leave.
The army sent hundreds more troops and armored vehicles onto the streets of Cairo and other cities but appeared to be taking little action against gangs of young men with guns and large sticks who were smashing cars and robbing people.
At least one Nile-side shopping mall in Cairo was on fire after being looted the previous day. Banks were closed on orders from Egypt’s Central Bank, and the stock market was shut on what is normally the first day of the trading week.
