NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release _________________ Contact: Ray Gillen, Metroplex (518) 377-1109 (518) 461-7137 (cell) Denny’s Coming to Downtown Schenectady Schenectady, N.Y., January 20, 2011 – Schenectady County leaders today announced plans by Denny’s Restaurant to occupy the vacant Friendly’s building located at 60 Nott Terrace in downtown Schenectady. “We welcome Denny’s to Schenectady County,” said Susan E. Savage, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “A new business in this building once again will be great for the two colleges and for the neighborhood.” Denny’s plans to begin renovations following receipt of City approvals for the project. The company has more than 1,600 locations in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guam, Mexico, Honduras, New Zealand and Puerto Rico. Denny’s has been in operation since 1953. It is one of the largest full-service restaurant chains with most locations open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Denny’s is well known for its Grand Slam breakfasts as well as other classic favorites. In Schenectady, Denny’s will lease 60 Nott Terrace, a 4,000 square foot building owned by David Firestein and Robert Raphael. The building owners were represented in negotiations with Denny’s by Alison Burnside from the Dartmouth Company’s Latham Office. Denny’s will undertake a complete overhaul of the restaurant over the next 4 to 6 months. The new Schenectady location will be owned by Mr. Mahmud Kahn and Mr. Suprio Banerjee who also operate Denny’s Restaurants in Wilton and East Greenbush, N.Y. as well as locations in California, Washington and Arizona. Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair and Commissioner of Economic Development and Planning in Schenectady County said, “Denny’s fills a key location at the gateway to downtown. We welcome them to Schenectady County.” More information may be found at http://www.dennys.com.

That will really make it class! LOL! Another place for late night fights to break out and race issues to be developed. |

Another gateway to Downtown? But nothing about the real gateway on Lower State where folks are assaulted by the sight of dozens of empty store fronts. Desolation Boulevard. After years Death Ray brings a chain Downtown. Hooray! The elegance, the gourmet fare, fits right in with the empty WineDown and Kabul Nights. Where is the Book lady on this and how many tax giveaways were given? |

i used to eat at Denny's maybe twice a year on Central Ave when visiting my Mom. The food somewhat greasy but good : ) I too wonder about being open 24 hours as thats right by Stewarts and they have enough trouble of their own and they close before midnight. |

All the gang activity can move here from Bombers after getting liquored up. If they keep this open 24 hours they are out of their minds. "Another world class eatery has moved Downtown because of the unified development team led by Death Ray," stated Landslide Savage. |

So, how many property and school tax-free years will Denny's have. If Gillen and Savage are in on this, I'm sure the taxpayers will be funding this location for the next decade or so. A total renovation of the building? How much did the Plex hand over? |

Denny's was there before it became Friendsly's and became nothing. Why now is it opening up again in the same place? What is different thaat they think they will make money now in the worst economy in decades? Propbably will get good suppport by Union kids and those who want to mug the Union kids. |

The building was originally a Sambo's .. then a Friendlly's .. and now will be a Denny's. Long before the restaurant was built that was where the old Schenectady High School was located.
Denny's is ok --glad to see that something is moving into that vacant building. |

Great view. Too bad the single story on-slab chain restaurant is going in. THAT'S PLANNING! |

Actually, it might be ok during the day for the college kids. However, I wouldn't recommend venturing out at night.
It would also be interesting to see if they will become tax exempt like every other business in the city....AND if gillen had to beg them to come here, or if they can of their own free will. hmmmmmmm |
