Even worse when you consider the number of tax paying residents that actually USE the parks

And just think of the taxpayer's money used to maintain these parks!!!!

There are so many folks in these parks, some have to be turned away!! That's why they need yet ANOTHER!!!

NOT!!!

It's not about recreation. It's about public job creation. Why run for public office if I can't give Cousin Vinny a job at the Parks Dept? Of course taxes continue to explode and will until you elect people without this payroll padding mindset.

If the government creates it, the taxpayers pay for it, and the government creates 'family and friends' jobs to take care ofit!!!!!! Nice gig, huh?

Especially during a deep recession, with high taxes and fees, no jobs and devalued homes!!!

PARKS?????

OMG!

Why wasn't the land farmed to raise produce to sell at a Rotterdam farmer's market at a reduced price to offset the high costs of produce.  The profits could be used for all those trying to get a good spot at the Town Trough!

You are certainly welcome to volunteer your services to farm the land .. i suggest that you come forward at the next Town Board meeting to offer to do it.

The sad thing is that the naysayers are a bunch of uninformed malcontents who haven't even bothered to read the BOA Study Report ... or attend a Parks and Recreation Commission meeting when the proposal was discussed  . or done ANYTHING to inform themselves on the subject.

If they had bothered to become even slightly informed .. they would realize that the lands proposed for the Bicentennial Park  are either on the flood plain or have other issues that would make them virtually impossible to develop  .. other than for passive recreational uses.     The beauty of the BOA STUDY REPORT is that it tries to find the best possible use for these lands  AND allow for economic revitalization on other lands in the study area.      It is possible to have BOTH ---- a new general-use town park that  over 75% of residents said they want AND to have economic development that will grow our tax base and create jobs.

You wonder why Rotterdam has made the _hit list of highest taxed in the region? Keep voting DEM and soon we can be number 2 with a bullet-right next to the socialist paradise Schenectady! This isn't 1950 where town coffers are overflowing. We cannot afford more parks and park employees. The nine parks are more than adequate. It has nothing to do with the chairman and everything to do with the wrong path. Melrose Place has spoken-no more parks.

A survey of town residents says otherwise -- 75% of the residents want a NEW general-use town park  .. similar numbers want us to do something with the 78 acres of land in Rotterdam Junction that the town acquired 16 years ago for a general-use town park.    Over half of the residents said they would be willing to pay taxes to develop this new park -- YET ... we are offering a proposal that would build the park with PRIVATE, federal and state funds -- virtually no town tax dollars will be needed to develop the park.

BICENTENNIAL PARK WILL BE BUILT.

I am glad you are running your platform on a "raise taxes, increase spending" message. It will go over great, your survey said so.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Your survey is outdated. It was before the Obama depression. Things Done Changed. I had the same debate with Vince DeCarbo about the first library expansion. He told me the same thing that the vast majority wanted it. I said they couldn't afford it. How'd that turn out? lol. Vince, the big DEM tax supporter/County leader has now fled to REP controlled Saratoga County. If you build it-they won't come.

The survey was taken in November 2009 in the midst of the recession ...   it will not cost the town anything to acquire the land -- because it owns it already  .... most of the funding will come from PRIVATE FUNDS and the remainder from federal and state funds  ------- and it is the ONLY possible use for the lands  .. and it  WILL generate traffic from residents and tourists which will support small business development in the Junction

-- so quit raising the stupid "it's a recession" argument .. which by the way started under George W Bush -- so obviously  you have no grasp of reality or facts

And who paid for that?  Thought the parks commission didn't had $0 operating expenses?
