I am certainly no fan of Olbermann, but I certainly hope this isn't a 'free speech' issue. I didn't agree with ONE thing he ever said, but there were people who did.
If this was a punishment for his donation, I could buy that. Although I question why MSNBC would wait this long to act.
Again, I don't like the guy's views AT ALL! I just hope this isn't the beginning of the cable news networks caving to the liberal socialists hate speech agenda.....wouldn't that end up being a hoot.......the liberal socialists silencing the liberal?

COMCAST MAKEOVER: "MSNBC And Keith Olberman Have Ended Their Contract"; Lefty MSNBC About To Make Right Turn? By NIKKI FINKE AND NELLIE ANDREEVA | Friday January 21, 2011
The statement (below) about Keith Olbermann's firing came without warning. The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell will move to 8 PM weekdays on MSNBC, and The Rachel Maddow Show remaining at 9 PM, with The Ed Show starring Ed Schultz moving to 10 PM. The move is simultaneous with new owner Comcast starting to show its hand over the broadcast network and cable after receiving FCC approval. "He's been very problematic," an NBCU source told Deadline about Comcast's attitude to Olbermann. Officially, the Comcast takeover is next week. But word has been circulating for months now that the new owners have wanted to "tinker" with MSNBC and had many changes in store, including a right turn for the left-wing cable channel so that it represents both political points of view more evenly. It is well known that both Comcast chief Brian Roberts and NBCU chief Steve Burke have donated heavily to the Republican party with Burke more recently donating money to a few Democrats as well as heavily to Republicans. Roberts was a co-chairman of the host committee at the 2000 Republican Convention while Burke raised at least $200,000 for George W Bush’s re-election campaign. Olbermann hosts the highest-rated program on MSNBC. His Countdown averaged 1 million viewers, down a modest 10% from 2009. However, he's known as a very polarizing figure and a loose cannon, and became more and more of a liability for MSNBC. In November, he was briefly suspended for making Democratic campaign contributions -- and then reinstated. Olbermann's exit follows yesterday's departure of NBC primetime president Angela Bromstad in a housecleaning there.
Ok.....this is bullcrap! Again....I personally can't stand the guy.....so I don't watch him. But obviously 1 million people did! In my opinion, this was a dirty deal and he should have been left on. Olbermann, just like Rush, Savage, Beck and the rest, are opinion segments and should be allowed whether they support the left or right.
It's not Olberman that is or was failing....liberal tv/talk radio have historically never succeeded. He should have stayed on ESPN.
IMHO

Why should a failed show-a ratings disaster be left on? Just because you're political does not mean you are marketable. His ratings were rock bottom and the ads rate suffered. That's the bottom line. A liberal show with a dynamic host would work. He has terrible at ESPN too.

Look, he's no different than a beck or rush or savage. FOX is basically killing all the liberal cable news networks. But Olbermann, and again I can't stand the guy, was the beck for the liberals. And he had the top rated show on msnbc. I won't miss him one way or the other, but I think he had his place in the liberal arena.
I predict that MSNBC will fall even more now that they gave Olbermann the boot. IMHO

I think they wanted to cut the umbilical cord between Olberman and Reilly.....eventually their little 'tiff'($$$ maker) was stifling...their rhetoric ended at nothing.....watching 2 people argue can only last for entertainment purposes for so long....not to mention the talk about 'toning down the rhetoric'.....Olberman was their 'Jesus'........he laid down his mic for them
