A mission for Joe?
Last Updated: 4:12 AM, January 21, 2011

Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman made it official this week: He will not seek election next year to a fifth term, ending a distinguished career.

That's bad news for the Nutmeg State.

But if President Obama takes a suggestion from John McCain (R-Ariz.) -- to tap Lieberman as a replacement for soon-to-be-retiring Secretary of Defense Robert Gates -- it just might be a boon for the entire nation.

Joe Lieberman has been a landmark senator. He's shown true independence -- and genuine political courage.

On national-security issues and the War on Terror, he has been virtually the last of that vanishing breed of Democrats -- typified by the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Henry "Scoop" Jackson -- who understood the need for a strong defense and internationally active America.

And he is one of the Capitol's few truly principled legislators, consistently putting the national interest ahead of his personal political interests.

That independence led him to break with his own party -- which had nominated him for vice president in 2000 -- and endorse McCain eight years later........................>>>>.....................>>>>...............http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/editorials/mission_for_joe_joe_lieberman_xE8V2k7tiFZ9SEmyRojFML

I would say no to that idea.  For sure my landsman but that is not the job for him.  He needs to ride off into the sunset and write his memoirs.

He will not ride off into the sunset. I'm sure there was a deal cut BEFORE he even announced his departure.

Interestingly I knew Lieberman's rabbi, Rabbi Jospeh Ehrenkrantz.  You would have thought Lieberman walked on water so to speak.  But in those days I liked him.  I think he became a turncoat and I couldn't take his hawk ideas anymore.

Joseph Lieberman was -- and is -- one of the great Democrats and great US Senator.   For those of us, moderate to conservative Democrats ... he has been an inspiration over the years.

I don't just support people because they are Democrats -- there are a number of Democrats that I would NEVER vote for in a million years.

I support Joseph Lieberman because he was on the money when it came to supporting the War On Terror -- and a whole lot of othe rissues.

You have a right to your opinion -- even if it is wrong.

America was attacked on 9-11 and we responded by going after the terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq.  I supported President Bush 1000% on both.    That is why I respect men like Joe Lieberman who made the right call on both parts of the War On Terror.

and for the record -- those of us Democrats and Republicans who supported the War on Terror are NOT war-mongers ----   no one wanted this war ...  but we were attacked and as the song says ... if you attack America we will put a  "boot in your a** ... it's the American way".

Imagine how much better it would have been if Bush had spoke in a different tone to those who attacked us.  Imagine how different things would be if there was outreach with words instead of guns.  Imagine how different we looked for a different way to reconcile.  Those people downtown toay who were protesting, some of them ex-marines, can imagine that outcome.  Why not you?

because there is no Mamby-Pamby land....now imagine if there were behavior monitoring drugs in the public water supply? I'm not
saying war is pretty, nice, or always the best choice.....but it will ALWAYS exist..,,,,and it will exist on your conscience and mine and
everyone else's every time we see it in the news or on a commercial..... more words are used now than ever before...
the sad part is that a whole generation wasn't taught to use rhetoric or our own language....cat=kat? because it was a free for all love
fest....anger is from dis-education and mis-information and the lack of understanding.....can we educate war out of society? NOPE.....but we can ratchet it down...and it's even worse when foreign entities dont understand eachothers innuendoes......
