If he was MIA intentionally or the only President to ever miss these events, I wouls agree with you....check back and you'll see he's not the only one.

Actually, I was incorrect as it was Memorial Day he missed at the Tomb. I know that other Presidents have missed such events, but being that this is his first year, one would expect him to be present at such important events.

He doesn't need to go to everything....he may be our leader but one of 3 branches....he's one of many cogs in the machine at home and America's
'face' when he is abroad....

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I thought that perhaps in the first year he was just too busy apologizing to foreign countries....no?

When Obama was the 'president elect' he did lay the wreath at the tomb. My point is that the President does need to be in AZ rather than Schenectady on Tuesday. The AZ massacre is a terrible tragedy and with that said, so was 9/11 and all those who fought and died for our country.

Of course, as Senders correctly states, there are many members of government which can go to the Tomb, but IMHO President Obama needs to be present for that one day. Just to show the Country that as the leader of this nation, he will take the time to remember as we should all do.

On Veteran Day -- President Obama was with active and veteran US Military participating in Veteran's Day
ceremonies at an American Military Cemetery in South Korea ---- they were commemorating both Veteran's
Day and the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War.

It was highly appropriate for him to be there on Veteran's Day   -- and he was NOT as the cowards who
malign him keep suggesting.

President Barack Obama places a wreath at the base of the Yongsan War Memorial, located in the U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan in Seoul, Korea, Nov. 11, 2010.

He visited the base, not a cemetary.

I guess I don't see the difference. If the President was to come to Schenectady on Tuesday and hold a moment of silence for the people who died in the AZ massacre, I'm sure it would seem somewhat callous.

So, what's the difference for the President not coming to NYC during this past 9/11 anniversary in the midst of the responders bill controversy? Or not going to Arlington for Memorial Day, or not going to the Tomb for Veteran's Day?

My point is that in America, it seems like we forget what's really important and the Leader of our Nation have the ability to reinstate a sense of purpose and honor on certain occasions. I mean, George H.W.Bush NEVER went to Arlington yet Bill Clinton went every year. This isn't a DEM or REP argument, its the fact that such a small gesture by a President can influence a sense of unity among citizens  - especially at times of tragedy.

Remember when B.O. was giving shout outs before addressing the Fort Hood Massacre?  His first remarks on the matter were pre-empted by shout outs.  Real class.

Fort Hood: Obama urges caution amid fears of backlash against MuslimsPresident joins calls for calm across the US in wake of Fort Hood shooting spree that left 13 dead

Barack Obama today joined calls from across America for calm amid fears of a backlash in the wake of the shooting spree by a Muslim soldier at the Fort Hood that left 13 dead and 28 wounded.

Obama, speaking in the White House Rose Garden after being briefed by the FBI, sought to dampen tensions, as did politicians from both the Democratic and Republican parties, the military, Muslim associations and the family of the alleged shooter, Major Nadil Malik Hasan.

"I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we get all the facts," Obama said. The risk of a witchhunt rose today when the commander at the Fort Hood base, Lieutenant-General Robert Cone, disclosed that wounded soldiers said Hasan had shouted "Allahu Akbar" before opening fire on unarmed soldiers at the Texas base

His reaction to the Iranian massacre's were also a bit delayed. Right-it never happened as Obama supported the current murderous regime.

The right time for a Presidential visit was at the ribbon cutting when the GE battery plant opened. Not some random date in January which made no sense. This whole trip seemed half baked. His top priority should be the White House working to defend this Nation. The tragedy is horrible and of course must take precedent over nonstop campaigning. We will welcome him to Schenectady at anytime.

This entire visit is nothing but a photo-op. The Battery "plant" isn't even close to being ready, there is really nothing to tour.
In fact, most of the visit will be focused on building 273. Crews were working the weekend moving stuff into 273 and cleaning things up.

It is all bull$hit.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Rumor has it that this so called battery plant won't be ready until 2016.......if at all. Just as savage!
