Taxes trigger a Texodus in New YorkBy JENNIFER FERMINO

The Lone Star State is scooping up more than just our congressional seats -- some $846 million in personal income shifted from New York to Texas in an eight-year period during the last decade, according to an analysis of IRS tax returns.
Texas, which has no state or local income taxes and an enviably low cost of living, has been steadily poaching New Yorkers since the '90s, according to data from the Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan tax research organization based in Washington.
From 2000 to 2008, more than $846 million in personal income moved from New York to Texas -- with more than $212 million leaving in 2006 and '07.
New York lost an estimated $38.4 billion in personal income to other states in that same time period, while Texas gained roughly $12.2 billion from migration.
Texas was the big winner in the 2010 Census, which was announced last week. It picked up four House seats, more than any other state.
The fading Empire State came up short and lost two seats thanks to its sluggish population growth of 2.1 percent, compared with the national average of 9.7 percent.
"People aren't moving down to those Sunbelt states for the weather," said Kenneth Adams, president and CEO of the Business Council of New York State.
"It's three things: taxes, taxes and taxes."
Heavily taxed New Yorkers pay on average 11.7 percent of their income to state and local taxes, according to data from the Tax Foundation. By contrast, Texans pay only 8.4 percent of their income in local and state taxes.

Raise them to make the rich pay their fair share. Works great. Just ask Taxin' Tonko and DV! |
| "While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat." |

I have never voted to raise a tax ... but Senator Farley has voted over 600 times to raise taxes. |

I was talking to a local developer today. They said that the federal, state and local government is KILLING them. With all of thetaxes, fees, regulations and the hoops they make them go through, it makes it almost impossible to increase a job base. They are all working lean and mean, just to make ends meet. And yes........the 'friends and family club' element is a major factor!!!! |

Not to worry -- with global warming --- pretty soon most of Texas and Florida and the Carolinas will be under water -- and the folks who can swim or who have life boats will be moving back to New York. |

Note to DV, scientists now believe that we may be in a global cooling period since 1998. |

The point here is that NYS has just about driven everyone OUT!!! The state is bankrupt and the taxes are out of sight and they just don't know how to cut spending! Instead they keep spending like drunkin sailors and hit up the taxpayers to foot the bill.
Maybe someone should tell the elected officials in nys that we are in a recession!!! I don't think they've heard yet! |

Note to Shadow - I remember being told by a science teacher in high school that we would be in an ice age by the start of the 21st century ... who knows what the future holds ... the climate has ALWAYS been changing or unpredictable. I was just making a bit of humor about all the people moving south. By the way, there are other problems down south --- like higher crime rates ... clean water availability ... hurricanes ---- things that are more near term or immediate concerns than possible "global warming" or possible ice ages or meteors plowing into the earth. |

All in all, I love New York ... plan on staying here for at least ..... oh .. 10 to 15 years.
But I have had offers to pursue interests in other states and have to give that some thought to.
Ultimately, I have my eyes on a particular property .. on a lake somewhere in New York. It would make a wonderful place to spend the few decades of life. |

I couldn't give a rat's behind what Pat Zollinger thinks about my plans. Private citizens don't have to answer to anyone but God and his/her self. |

Since there are no checks and balances on these lifer DEMS-thank God we have taxpayer watchdogs like Pat, Harry Brandt and Vince Riggi to stop some of the more public outrages. The crowd of outraged taxpayers grows at every City Council meeting. |

NY won't get better. NY is terminal. We better face reality. |
