There are no hard and fast rules that require a "first lady" to be the spouse of the executive. James Buchanan's niece was called "First Lady" when she acted as the hostess when he was president.
Martha Washington was married to George .. but never called the "First Lady" .. as the term had not been "coined" yet. From 1789 to 1857, the wives of presidents were called "the president's wife" , "Mrs. President", and "Mrs. Presidentress".
In fact, the first recorded use of the term was in 1849 by President Zachary Taylor who referred to Dolly Madison by that term -- this was on the occasion of her funeral.
The term reappeared in 1857 to refer to Harriet Lane, niece of President James Buchanan. It has been used since then to refer to the woman who acted as the hostess at the White House ever since. |

I like her too, but she won't be considered by First Lady of New York according to proper rules of etiquette. She needs to be married to the Governor in order to have that title. She and Andy need to tie the knot. Bloomy's girlfriend is not first lady of NYC either. She'll just be first girlfriend of NY!
I could care less about his trophy girl. She does not pass legislation or is in a government policy making position. She is just his sleeping partner. Who cares whether she's his girlfriend, wife, cook or sex toy. She has no impact on NYS's governing. IMHO |

Well, I happen to believe she will make a wonderful First Lady of the State of New York. |

She can be the "First" girlfriend. Even poor Silda didn't have that role. |

It's about time a Democrat smartened up and didn't bring the ole ball and chain into the governor’s mansion. These are NY Democrats, they're not one women men...If you know what I mean…if they're not cheatin' they're beatin'. Yet the feminist love liberal Democrat men. Go figure. |

No one is suggesting that she be paid taxpayer dollars. The title "First Lady" is an honorary one. It is not a constitutionally created position --- it was created by the popular media over 150 years ago. Every woman who has been First Lady of the United States or of any of the 50 states has fulfilled the role in her own unique way. And I believe that Sandra Lee will make a great "First Lady" - whether she wishes to have the title or not. She is still #1 in the hearts of her fans and the fans of Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo. |

Sandra Lee will make a great First Lady of the United States when Andrew Cuomo moves into the White House on January 20, 2017. |

I like Andrew but I have to tell you--he's not his father. I think he will just be residing in Albany. But I would keep my eye on Kristin Jillebrand. |

There will not be another President from NYS anytime soon. FDR will be the last. This State has become a national political laughingstock. Congressman Rangel, Comptroller Hevesi, Gov Spitzer followed by Patterson. Some of yous need to travel more. KG was very lucky to run against a complete unknown with no money. That will not happen again in 2012. |

NYS is the laughing stock of the country. The second being California. No one in the country would vote for a president that governed NYS! IT'S A FISCAL MESS!!
The electorate would rather have an unexperienced president (obama) with NO history, good or bad, than elect a politician that historically couldn't even fix it's own state. People are fleeing nys in record numbers. Don't look good for any governor. |

Who gives a fart about any inaugural event? I would never attend one and never have. Who cares about whom the governor shacks up with? Neither him nor that girl senator will ever be president, any more than SaVAGE goes to a higher office beyond Nisky' county board seat holder. I feel like I am reading the Romper Room message board every time that fool posts. Typical Rotterdam mentality- uninformed. |

To your point........savage will never emerge out of schenectady county. Having the highest taxed county in the state and the 19th highest in the country, combined with increased crime and the migration of the welfare seekers to the county is just about enough to seal her dismal fate. |
