Prediction:

Republicans come to senses - McGarry gets the nod -  FDG all done.

They need McGarry to repair the party's reputation.

Yes Rasp, she does.  TB seat might have been within reach last time, but not Co. Leg. Why they didn't endorse Brad Littlefield instead of Mike Viscusi is beyond understanding from the very beginning.

Frank did live up to some of his campaign promises.  Assessor is soon to be history, people voted on fate of REMS to name a few.  He did also say he wouldn't run again.  So...if he meant that, he won't be running against Brian.  

I hope your predictions come true Cissy.  Brian would be a very sensible town supervisor.

Thought FDG said he was a one termer? Brian M is a great unity candidate. He would attract long time residents, Draper grads and fiscal Conservatives. REPS must expand their base. Getting out of the gate early was a wise move. Now others must get off the fence. Between the school and new tax district NO! landslides many trial balloons were popped.

Go Brian...you have my vote!

There are independent candidates popping up all over the county. Probably some that haven't even emerged yet. It's gonna be a hell of an election year. Good luck Brian!

McGarry announces 2011 political plan: supervisor candidate

    Brian McGarry didn’t wait long to toss his hat in the ring for the Rotterdam supervisor race next year.
    With more than a year remaining on incumbent Frank Del Gallo’s term, McGarry, the former No New Tax Party candidate, announced his intentions to run for the supervisor’s seat. McGarry, a long-time Conservative who enrolled in the Republican Party last year, plans to campaign on a platform of fi scal responsibility and limiting the size of government.
    “Too many town residents are struggling to make ends meet and are having trouble finding jobs in this difficult economic environment,” he said Thursday.
    McGarry spoke the day after voters handily defeated a proposed tax district for Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services Inc., the town’s not-for-profit ambulance service. He said the timing of the announcement seemed fi tting, considering that he was a vocal opponent of the tax district idea.
    “Armed with the facts, Rotterdam residents overwhelmingly denounced the proposed increases in spending and the resulting hike in property taxes,” he said. “This refl ects the growing national trend towards smaller government and sends a clear message to our local leaders to find less costly options for services.”
    McGarry is a sixth-grade teacher in the Duanesburg Central School District; he also has a photography business that he’s operated for 31 years.
    McGarry said he will seek endorsements from the Republicans, Conservatives and the Independence Party. And he’s considering another run as the No New Tax Party candidate, an independent party line he founded with three others prior to the 2009 election. “Ideally, in a perfect world, the Republican line and No New Tax Party line would be cross endorsed,” he said.
    Tom Buchanan, the chairman of the county Republican Committee, said McGarry would be a good candidate for supervisor. Republican says he supports Tea Party values and smaller government

While election season might’ve come to a close, Brian McGarry is already starting his campaign for Rotterdam Town Board Supervisor in next year’s election.

Last year McGarry ran on the No New Tax independent party line for the town supervisor position against the former supervisor Republican Steve Tommasone and current supervisor Democrat Frank Del Gallo. McGarry said he decided to announce his bid for supervisor after the tax district vote, because he is opposed to raising taxes on residents.

“That was an issue that kind of galvanized me to run in the first place,” said McGarry. “That was something that I thought was unnecessary and added another level of government and taxation that people at this time cannot afford.”

While McGarry does plan to run on the No New Tax line he founded, he hopes to garner support from Republicans and also appear on its line too. He thinks people are also in line with his views and on a national level the country is starting to change.

“Those national trends are now starting to be focused in on Rotterdam,” he said. “The message has been sent by people that they do not need any raises in their taxes.”

He is a supporter of the Tea Party values and creating a smaller government. The party he is also claims to have made him become a politician.

“The common thread is they think government is taking up too much of their life in every sense,” he said. “I was kind of born as a politician out of the Tea Party movement.”

Currently McGarry is employed as a sixth grade teacher for Duanesburg Central School District.     Re Dec. 17 article, “McGarry announces 2011 political plan: supervisor candidate”: Brian McGarry didn’t take votes from former supervisor Steve Tommasone; Tommasone gave him the votes.
    From Tommasone’s decision wasting taxpayers’ money by suing GAR over the property revaluation; to targeting certain properties for reassessment to create a case against GAR; to pursuing a vendetta to keep Walmart from relocating to a new site in Rotterdam; to remaining passive in the face of injustice suffered by two longtime Rotterdam property owners who found themselves the owners of such valuable property their retirement income could no longer cover the taxes; to imposing a new townwide tax — not by voter referendum, but by Town Board resolution — Tommasone gave the support and goodwill he once enjoyed to those politicians who were willing to heed the will of Rotterdam’s taxpayers.
If the Rotterdam GOP is serious about regaining voters’ trust, it would be well advised to promote candidates who have demonstrated the ability to tune in to the mood of the electorate.

Is Buchanan still the head of the party?  Why not get Lazzari--she seems to head and shoulders above all the others...though she may be off-base on McGarry being a good choice.  He has already angered Hamburg St. business owners.

I think this may be one of the things he did right.  Actually, the fact that they successfully blocked the Walmart relocation is what got Steve elected another term despite the threats and baseless attacks from the Conservative Party on the heels of the Police Commission.  

The attempt to push through a taxing district for REMS was the political miscalculation.  And to make "Save the REMS" (Which everybody knew meant a taxing district) the center piece of the Republican campaign???  What the hell were they thinking?  Just look at the turnout(in mid December) and outcome of the referendum, you tell me what cost the republicans.

You are still in DEEP denial Cicero.  Ms Lazzari is spot on with her analysis.  She should have been the Supervisor instead of lame brain Signore.

I've always liked and had deep respect for Mrs. Lazzari, and her husband - but frankly, I've had enough with recycled politicians.
