Mazzone, Joseph F. SCOTIA, N.Y. Joseph F. Mazzone, age 91, of Alexander Avenue, entered eternal rest on November 28, 2010 after a long illness. He was born on November 22, 1919, and attended school in Schenec-tady, N.Y. Joseph graduated from Nott Terrace High School and attended the Franklin School of Professional Arts for Special Studies in New York City. He was called to serve his country after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served at Ft. Knox, Ky. and in the European Theatre with the 87th Infantry Division, 3rd Army under General George S. Patton. Being fluent in the Italian language, he was selected to be an interpreter for the Italian prisoners of war. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and other European campaigns. Joseph was awarded a Certificate of Merit and was awarded the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Joseph began his display career at H. S. Barney Company prior to World War II. For 18 years, Joseph was the display director at the Wallace Co. in Schenectady. He was then employed as the display director at John G. Myers in Albany, N.Y. until its closing and Denby's in Troy, N.Y. until his retirement in 1981. He received many awards and won contests for his store windows and interior displays including 1st place in a national contest honoring Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1953. In 1954, he was state delegate to the Jaycee National Convention held in Minneapolis, Minn. Joe also was a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was past president and chairman of the Board of the Glenville Veterans of World War II. For some time, he was the co-owner of the Scotia Wine and Liquor Store. Joe was also an election official for many years. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Felice and Adele Mazzone and his infant brother, Edward. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gloria Marotta Mazzone, and he was the love of her life; his daughter, Christine Lyons and her husband Gary of Burnt Hills; sons, Felix Mazzone and his wife Robin of Scotia, Mark Mazzone and his wife Sharon of Cary, N.C., and Jeffrey Mazzone and his wife Pam of Scotia. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jaclyn Reagan and her husband Will of Delmar, N.Y., Jason Lyons of Burnt Hills, N.Y., Rebecca Mazzone of Melbourne, Fla., Dr. Elizabeth Mazzone McCormick and her husband Thomas of Melbourne, Justin Mazzone of Schenectady, N.Y., 2nd Lt. Bryan Mazzone of Cary, N.C.; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Maxum Reagan. In addition, he is survived by numerous cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews; and very dear friends, Ernie and Ann D'Alessandro. The family wishes to express its deepest and most heartfelt gratitude for the loving care and attention given to Joe by the N3 staff at the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services to be held Thursday 9:15 a.m. from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. (Route 50). Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and may also call at the Glenville Funeral Home Wednesday December 1, 2010 from 6-8 p.m at Glenville Funeral Home.
