The AP just called this race:

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Sen. Lisa Murkowski on Wednesday became the first Senate candidate in more than 50 years to win a write-in campaign, emerging victorious over her tea party rival following a painstaking, week-long count of hand-written votes.

The victory completes a remarkable comeback for the Republican after her humiliating loss in the GOP primary to Joe Miller.

Her victory became clear when Alaska election officials confirmed they had only about 700 votes left to count, putting Mrs. Murkowski in safe territory to win re-election. Mrs. Murkowski is flying back from Washington to Alaska to make an "exciting announcement" to supporters Wednesday, proclaiming in an e-mail that the campaign "made history."

Mrs. Murkowski has a lead of about 10,000 votes, a total that includes 8,153 ballots in which Miller observers challenged over things like misspellings, extra words or legibility issues.

It was not immediately clear how Mr. Miller will proceed. He and his advisers have vowed to take legal action over what they contend is an unfair tally in Mrs. Murkowski's favor, but Mr. Miller has maintained he'll stop fighting if the math doesn't work in his favor.

Good for her.  I think she was the best choice.

The result hasn't been certified yet -- there may still be a legal challenge.

I'm sure there will be challenges since is such a close race. It was interesting and educational for the young to see democracy at work.

I didn't really follow the Alaska Senate race ...  except when Miller had that reporter arrested.

Judge halts certification of Murkowski win
By: Shira Toeplitz
November 19, 2010 08:25 PM EST

A federal judge ruled Friday in favor of Republican Joe Miller to halt the certification of the election results — at least provisionally — in his race against Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s write-in campaign to retain her seat.

U.S. District Judge Ralph Beistline granted a temporary injunction to stop election officials from certifying the results of the Senate race, according to The Associated Press.

However, Beistline granted the injunction as long as Miller moves his case to state court instead of federal court by Monday. Beistline reportedly said that state court is in “the best position, at least initially, to apply Alaska law and to determine who won this election.”

The results of the case, which will likely now be determined in state court, will be instrumental in determining the final results of the Senate seat — although a Miller victory is still a long shot. .................>>>>..............>>>>................................http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1110/45436.html
