The current Assessor insulted many a town resident inlcuding myself with his arrogance and lack of respect to those making inquiries to his office.  I really can't comment on his competence, but more his lack of public service work ethic.
I don't believe John treated residents like that.  We need to stay focused on fair and up-to-date assessments for all not just a few.
I give a thumbs up for FDG living up to a campaign promise and finding a way to replace Mr. Surprise.  If Mr. Surprise had changed his attitude, he wouldn't have been in this position.
Why was his contract for six years?  Any replacement's contract should only be for two years.

If I remember correctly, Tommasone and company passed a resolution during the final week of their administration to take care of Surprise... They knew the incoming Administration did not want Surprise so they did it to stick it to them and now it cost the taxpayers a buyout to undo. Just another mistake by Tommasone and company.

True fact PG13.  That's why it was so painful for some of us to watch Nikki and Matt vote lock step with the guy who brought Surprise in, nurtured him and protected him.  You do know Surprise's office sent the dead's persons affadavit up to Eunice to be notarized.  They knew Eunice unknowingly would try to be helpful, that's just her way. The person even stated they were sent there by the Assessor's Office.  Tsk Tsk.  Shame, shame, shame.

Like Surprise or not, he was just doing what he was told by GP.  Parisi promised him he would be protected if he did exactly as he was told, didn't work out that way.

John Macejka might be lazy and come to work late every day, but he knows the town and the people and understands why people go to that office to vent.  A new face would have been nice, but John won't be bad in a part time capacity.

Is John M the guy who rides around town in the gray town truck with the yellow light on top, smoking cigs, drinking coffee and talking illegally on the phone all day long?  You mean that "lazy, come to work late every day town employee?"  You mean he started already Zorro?  I thought he left in 2007?  Yes or no?  I am sooooooooo confused.

Bringing the Majik-man back might stimulate the local economy, or at least the construction industry.  Now those that didn't build additions on to their homes, because they didn't want to pay the taxes on the new assessment can now build without that worry with the majik-man back .  Building Permits - Optional.(as long as they know who to vote for of course).

Maybe it was painful to you but it was good to see from my view. If Nicki and Matt didn't step up and fix the budget, we'd all be paying an additional 4+% in taxes next year and every year thereafter.

As far as Eunice, regardless of how helpful she has been through the years, she should have known better. And it's a disgrace that she remains out of work and the taxpayers have to foot the bill on the additional manpower for her office.

Rotterdam is such a mess. Bringing Macejka back is just another step backwards.  Securing an unknown assessor would have been the best move for rotterdam.

And can someone explain why the assessors office would want to 'set up' the town clerk? That makes no sense at all. I mean really, did she not welcome the assessors advances or something??? WHF?

And no matter how it came down the pike............Eunie is still responsible for her own actions.

As a side note.............the people in rotterdam have to grow some thick skin. They take EVERYTHING so damn personal.

Rotterdamians are defined by their politics.

poor bastards!

So help us understand here.............rotterdamians are giving their assessor the boot because he 'isn't nice'?? He is competent, but 'not nice'?

So help us understand here.............rotterdamians are supporting Eunie because she 'is nice'?? She is incompetent, but 'is nice'?

You rotterdamians are NUTS!!!

My personal experience had to do with him not taking my calls and his not being that helpful when he did.  As to competence, I had no issues with my actual assessments...yet.  I don't believe people in public service jobs should treat residents as an interruption and bother.  I don't have that option in my job and would never choose it if I did. I questioned his behavior and complained personally about his behavior to the previous town supervisor.

Eunice was always helpful and courteous to me. Publically, her competence has been questioned and it's been documented.  Publically, she is not at work and she is still getting paid.  As a taxpayer, I'm not happy about that situation.  I have called the Town Clerk's office at least twice and left a message and no one has called me back.

I have to disagree on the budget increase spin you adhere to.  The supervisor had pared it down to 7% after the Tentative was introduced and had Nikki and Matt approached the Supervisor there was an opportunity for a minimal tax increase if one at all.  Shame on them for NOT working with the man who helped immensely with getting the team elected and voting with the turd (GP) who continued with his childish political rants at the DEMS!!!!!  It was disgusting.  The same turd (GP) who railed against Eunice for the Secretary/Treasuer of the Town GOP's (Lynn Fiorillo) candidacy for Town Clerk.  Mistakes happen and the GOP blew the Notary issue way out of proportion for political gain.  The resident essentially tried to file a fraudulant document with the Assessor's Office and was SENT to the Clerk's Office with specific instructions to have Eunice Notarize it and bring it back!!!!!!!  The affadavit had NOTHING to do with the administrative function of the Clerk's Office!!! Ahhh Huhhhh!!!!!!

To this day, I don't understand why the Assessor's role in the "notary issue" was not investigated.  IMHO,
Eunice made a mistake - but she admitted it and was penalized for it --- the others who directed the
resident to the Town Clerk's office may very well have committed fraud and conspiracy .. and they haven't
been brought to justice yet.

So how did they commit fraud?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
