"It's clearly an airplane contrail," Pike said Tuesday afternoon. "It's an optical illusion that looks like it's going up, whereas in reality it's going towards the camera. The tip of the contrail is moving far too slowly to be a rocket. When it's illuminated by the sunset, you can see hundreds of miles of it ... all the way to the horizon.

WOW....I heard that same thing on FOX....who'da thought!!

Bottom line is, in this day and age, with terrorist threats and an outstanding homeland security, not NORAD, NASA or any government agency seems to know EXACTLY what it is!

But not to worry....it was headed AWAY from the united states! That should make everyone feel safer, huh?

Just keep 'fondling' the women and children at airports........that will clearly make us safer!

Bumble watches Fox and of course gets it wrong again.
If you watched CNN, you'd know it was heading TOWARD the USA not away.

The Pentagon said Tuesday that a missile launch off the southern coast of California remained “unexplained” and that its mysterious origins meant that it was not possible to rule out any threat to the homeland, Fox News Channel reported.

Earlier Tuesday, NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) and NORTHCOM (United States Northern Command) officials told Fox there was no threat, but Pentagon Spokesman Col. Dave Lapan would not confirm that because the military does not know what the missile was or where it came from.

Lapan added that the incident did not appear to be a regularly scheduled test, as no warnings to mariners or airmen appeared to be issued ahead of its launch.

The contrail was caught on camera by a KCBS news helicopter at around sunset Monday evening, approximately 35 miles out to sea and west of Los Angeles.

The missile appeared to be launched from the water, and not from US soil, Lapan added.

The military was trying to solve the mystery using the video from KCBS as there was no indication that NORAD and NORTHCOM were able to detect it independently.

According to Fox News, NORAD and NORTHCOM would only say they were aware of the launch.

However one unnamed senior defense official added: "There was no threat to the homeland."

A navy spokesperson previously told KCBS that no navy activity was reported in the region.

A sergeant at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County said a Delta II rocket was launched from the base last Friday, but insisted there were no launches since then.

On viewing the footage, former deputy defense secretary Robert Ellsworth speculated on KCBS that the launch could be a show of military muscle.

"It could be a test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile from a submarine ... to demonstrate, mainly to Asia, that we can do that," Ellsworth said.

Military officials say they have not yet found an answer as to who was responsible for the launch of the "mystery missile" caught on tape off the Southern California coast Monday night.

The contrail of what appears to be a missile streaking into the California sunset was captured on video by a KCBS news helicopter flying over Los Angeles at around 5 p.m. Pacific time.

The video drew more attention when local news stations were told by Navy and Air Force officials that they did not launch a missile Monday night.

U.S. Northern Command says they are continuing to investigate the origin of the apparent missile launch, but have still not determined if a U.S. military or federal agency was responsible for what appears to be a missile launch. However, in a statement they confirmed "that there is no threat to our nation, and from all indications this was not a launch by a foreign military."

NorthCom spokesman John Cornelio says they are continuing to look at every possibility, and "that includes missiles, planes and everything. We simply do not have a definitive answer at this time."

Flying above Los Angeles, the crew aboard the KCBS helicopter estimated the contrail was approximately 35 miles west out to sea, north of Catalina Island. The video tape has confounded military officials.

Because the video shows what appears to have been a missile launch at sea, there was speculation that a U.S. Navy vessel, possibly even a submarine, might have launched one off the California coast. However, Navy officials tell ABC News that contacts with all Navy units indicate are that a Navy asset did not launch any missiles Monday night.

Vandenberg Air Force Base is located north of Los Angeles and is a regular launch point for the testing of missiles, but they confirm that they had no missile activity Monday night either. Their last missile launch was Friday night.

There has been speculation that if the military was not behind the apparent missile firing caught on tape that it may have been a commercial venture. However, even private commercial testing requires coordination with federal aviation and maritime agencies to ensure no civilian aircraft or boats enter a maritime splash or launch area.

However, the Federal Aviation Administration said they did not approve any commercial launches around the Los Angeles area on Monday.

To add to the mystery of what's on KCBS's videotape, the FAA said a radar replay of a large area west of los Angeles did not reveal any fast moving unidentified targets in that area. They also did not report says receiving any reports of any unusual sightings from pilots who were flying in the area on Monday afternoon.

My only question about this is, IF it's a plane (and I see nobody saying it absolutely IS - just speculation), why hasn't the military summarily dismissed it - like the recent "ufo" sightings.

It was a test for Californians to see if they were 'on their toes' even when stoned.....maybe they wouldn't care if a missile hit them???? Although
I cant be running around like an idiot either looking for terrorists and anyhow no one would like who/what is on my list.....
I would still like to know what exactly defines a terrorist/terrorism, because honestly the only definition I know of is the one Stephen King writes about

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
