Bomb-proof tunnel with air conditioning: Obama's security go to extraordinary measures for his tour of the Gandhi museum
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

American warships to patrol off Mumbai during visit
Coconuts removed from trees as a precaution
250 U.S. business executives with Obama on 'biggest ever trade mission'
$200million Asia trip cost denied but the President will have huge entourage

Probably not since the days of the Pharaohs or the more ludicrous Roman Emperors has a head of state travelled in such pomp and expensive grandeur as the President of the United States of America.

While lesser mortals – the Pope, Queen Elizabeth and so on – are usually happy to let their hosts handle most of the security and transport arrangements when they venture beyond their home shores, the United States creates a mini-America on the move to ensure that nothing is left to chance.

Today, Barack Obama arrives in India at the start of a ten-day tour of Asia. At the heart of the White House caravan is ‘The Beast’, a gigantic, ‘pimped-up’ General Motors Cadillac which security experts say is, short of an actual battle tank, probably the safest road vehicle on the planet..............>>>>............>>>>............Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....g.html#ixzz14UH57edE

This highly doubtful claim originated with one Indian news agency quoting an anonymous source in Mumbai. The White House says it is "wildly exaggerated," and there’s no evidence to support such a huge figure. (FactCheck.Org)

Matt Lehrich, White House Office of Media Affairs: The numbers reported in this article have no basis in reality. Due to security concerns, we are unable to outline details associated with security procedures and costs, but it’s safe to say these numbers are wildly inflated.

How does disclosing the cost of the trip, but not how the money is being spent, constitute a security concern?

The WH is using the security excuse so that they don't have to tell the taxpayers how much the trip really costs.

This is yet another Wet Dream of the Right Wing Nuts who's job isn't to govern, but to prevent anyone from governing.  Beck, Druggy Rush, Bachmann & the Fox crew are reporting this invented story as if it were true!

What amazes me is the number of people who believe it...

CNN on this BOGUS story:

You're wrong again Box O'Reily last night said the story was bogus due to the fact the story came from an anonymous source in India. Beck just mentioned it in passing but said there was no facts to support it. Those 34 ships that aren't going to go will really be there but they're saying that it's for another reason other than presidents security.

Now that the story is being doubted... the rats are deserting the ship and running for cover.  Typical of Fox... Lie until you get caught.

The White House, meanwhile, issued a blanket statement that the $200 million figure "had no basis in reality" and was "wildly inflated." The press office declined to disclose the trip's actual cost, citing "security concerns."
In a news briefing Thursday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs also refused to release numbers, but he told reporters point-blank, "We are not spending $200 million a day."
Well then release the CORRECT numbers! That would be the 'right thing' to do since the taxpayers are footing the bill.

The news agency also wrongly said that the White House had blocked off the entire Taj Mahal Palace hotel for Obama's visit and that the U.S. was stationing 34 warships—roughly 10 percent of the naval fleet--off the coast of Mumbai for security reasons.
So apparently SOME of those warships are in fact for obama's visit....yes?

A 'blanket statement'??? ..... 'security concerns'???............this is just bull crap!! Since when does the cost of a presidential trip pose security concerns??

The only problem: The claims appear to be wrong.
The numbers evidently originate with the Press Trust of India,
It is almost hysterical that the american liberal media is making claims that ANOTHER media outlet is wrong!! It would appear that the Press Trust of India would have nothing to gain or lose by making these claims......the liberal media does!! As usual, the liberal media made it political and swayed this issure to the left. SURPRISE!!!!

Looks like the american liberal media is stretching it's strong arm out to foreign media outlets now!

This Obama trip, like every presidential trip, has the security arranged by the secret service... Just like it was for George Worst Bush... Just like it was for Bill Clinton...
Just like it was fore every president in modern time.

There is a segment of society that will always believe any report because they "saw it on tv"...   FOX News has cornered the market on "Those Americans!"

Come on boxy....use some common sense here.

Placing a price tag ONLY on a presidential trip is clearly NOT a security concern!

It is just all smoke and mirrors used by the american liberal socialists media to strong arm and discredit the foreign press!

Again, the India press had nothing to gain or lose by their article. Pallllleeeeezzzz!

Let's just say that his trip to India with 600 security agents, all the guests, 6 planes   plus however many naval vessels arrive there is going to cost the taxpayer one hell of a lot of money.

If this trip costs $2 million dollars a day... would that be more or less than it would be for George Worst Bush???

I don't think anyone on this board knows what a "good price" would be, and because it's Democrat Obama, the price is too high... but if it were a Republican, it wold be a bargain.
Hypocrites.
