Olbermann suspended for Dem contributions
CNN      By: CNN Political Unit

(CNN) - Keith Olbermann, MSNBC's primetime firebrand host, has been suspended indefinitely for violating the ethics policies of his employer earlier this year when he donated to three Democrats seeking federal office, MSNBC announced Friday.

"I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay," MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement.

First reported by Politico and confirmed by Federal Election Commission filings, the primetime television host gave $2,400 – the maximum individual amount allowed – to each of the campaigns of Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway, and Arizona Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords. (View PDF's of FEC filings for Conway, Grijalva, and Giffords)

Isn't MSNBC owned by GE???

And isn't there people that serve in the white house staff that are employed by GE????

Wasn't it Obama who said that MSNBC was the only 'real' media outlet out there??

Don't make sense to me!

I don't care much for NBC's and MSNBC's programming news or otherwise  .. I get my news from trusted
sources on the internet ... and I certainly don't need an overpayed boob    Olberman, Glenn Beck, Larry King,
Hannity  --- to tell me what to think or believe.

Theda Skocpol
Professor of Government and Sociology, Harvard :

Last night, Maddow explained that Olbermann had to check with his employer before giving to candidates in his personal capacity. Ridiculous!

The idea that people who work in the media cannot make personal political contributions without permission from the employer is a violation of the First Amendment rights that all of us have. All the more ridiculous in an era where Fox is an open propaganda network, running fundraisers and softball interviews with openly endorsed candidates, and when corporations can give secretly in the political process.

In short, NBC can give secret big money, but its employees give up ordinary rights that all individuals have. Why don't we just cut to the chase here and say only companies have any in Roberts Court America? The rest of us could go to the beach.................>>>>....................>>>>...............http://www.politico.com/arena/

NBC: Olbermann suspension ending Tuesday
Msnbc TV host violated network rules about political donations
updated 11/7/2010 11:13:11 PM ET

Keith Olbermann's suspension from msnbc television for donating to three Democratic campaigns will end this coming Tuesday, NBC announced Sunday night.
Olbermann was suspended indefinitely Friday for violating NBC News rules about donations.
(Msnbc.com, a joint venture of NBC Universal and Microsoft, also has a policy against its journalists contributing to political campaigns.)
In a statement released Sunday evening, Phil Griffin, president of msnbc television, said he had deliberated about Olbermann’s status for several days.

“I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night's program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy,” Griffin said. “We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night................>>>>....................>>>>.................http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40062578/ns/politics-decision_2010/#

Olbermann Will Return On Tuesday Night

I wonder if Olbermans return had anything to do with the petition presented to NBC with 280,000 signatures demanding that Olberman be reinstated?

This suspension was an ego check by network management to remind Olbermann he isn't larger than the network.  Olbermann knew the company's campaign contribution policy, he chose not to follow it.  He forgot he was just an employee of NBC, not the CEO.

Looks like after the shalacking the liberal democrats took in the midterms, NBC is looking to reshape MSNBC image to reflect American values. You can only be the lowest rated cable network for so long, before management starts making changes.  Look out Maddow, you could be next.
