WASHINGTON – The nation's homeownership rate is at the lowest level in more than a decade, hampered by a rise in foreclosures and weak demand for housing.
The percentage of households that owned their homes was unchanged at 66.9 percent in the July-September quarter, the Census Bureau said Tuesday. That's the same as the April-June quarter.
The last time the rate was lower was in 1999, when the rate was 66.7 percent.
The nation's homeownership rate was around 64 percent from 1985 through 1995. It then rose dramatically during the Clinton and Bush administrations, hitting a peak of more than 69 percent in 2004 at the height of the housing boom.

Owning a home meant having a job, saving money for a down payment, taking care of the upkeep and being able to AFFORD IT!!!
It was Barney 'HAPPY' Frank and the liberal socialists that decided home ownership was yet another ENTITLEMENT!! So they decided to give risky loans to risky buyers...hence....the housing bubble.....then COLLAPSE.....then the BAILOUT!!!
Just another example of what happens when the government gets involved!!! It eventually ALL GOES TO SH!T!!!
And the taxpayers foot the bill!!
Well I don't know about anybody else, but I'm sick and tired of forking over my hard earned money to bail out incompetent decisions and programs every time the government screws up..........which lately has been all the time. IMHO |

Odd remark coming from you Bumble. You were once part of the most inept and incompetent local government ever. As for foreclosure problem--blame Bush. It started with him. |

If Bumble was Mertz, you'd be correct. But, it's not and you're not. |

folks dont want to own homes because they are used as leverage by the government regardless of which party is in and, in this county/state atleast, the value of taxes paid sure doesn't add up. The home ownership 'privilege' has become a pathetic podium puck used by the legislative-car salesperson- electorate to campaign with, having used all the cliches of "poor middle class" "elderly staying in their homes" "sandwich generation" etc etc, and yet they have no plan but to shake down for F'EN bottle fee collections and parking meters.........WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Schenectady city ex: lay off firefighters but keep the golf pro and the $1.00 tax on Marcellas.........WTF!!!! why bother owning a house as a poor pathetic middle class slob in Schenectady, NY......we're just waiting breathlessly for Donald Trump to show up now........ |
