Helping people out, in the short term, is called a helping HAND UP!!
I don't agree with the 'cradle to grave' healthcare, which is exactly what government tax paid subsidized obama care is!
Healthcare is not an ENTITLEMENT! Healthcare is a BENEFIT that you receive for your hard work!!!!
What next?.......having the hard working people to pay for other people's 401K BENEFIT??
So get a job and earn it, like the rest of the hard working people!

The analogy I use with respect to pre-existing conditions...
Is would you really expect one of these extended warranty companies to allow you to buy a car warranty AFTER you had the transmission go, and then expect them to cover it? Um no.
The thought that you can force a company to allow a new customer to sign up, pay $10k, and immediately get $200k in paid benefits for say, a heart transplant... Again that just makes no sense... To literally force a company to accept new customers that will be a massive loss for them, essentially by making insurance coverage much higher on all its other customers.
I struggle with it though because even though I have a good job I might lose it someday, and pre-existing conditions could be an issue. So acknowledge the problem.
I believe one of the ways to improve things is to tackle costs, which this horrible piece of crap legislation will not do.
To help address costs... It completely unfair to people without coverage that their cash price is 2-10x more than my negotiated insurance costs for things like blood tests and doctor's visits.
If the healthcare law required providers to set one price, for everyone regardless of insurance... Then people without insurance could benefit greatly.
So get a job and earn it, like the rest of the hard working people!
Read my above post... a ( Republican Conservative) businessman who makes over $75,000 a year with a pre-existing condition, who HAS WORKED (except for a short illness) since he was a teenager, can't afford health insurance.
When you read that there are millions of Americans with out health insurance, you assume they don't work... you totally write off the millions who have jobs that don't provide health care and opt for food for their kids instead of health care.

There are ways to cover a person with pre-existing conditions without forcing the rest of the country to accept an inferior form of health-care and to give up a good health-care insurance that they got by working all their lives. I noticed that tort reform wasn't part of the health-care bill and that alone would help to reduce health-care costs.

A good point! tort reform could help cut costs... So where were your Republicans on this Bill??? A "COMPROMISE" could have included tort reform... but the Republicans sat on their hands and just said NO. NO HCR, NO Tort Reform, NO NO NO!
The GOP had the power to push tort reform as part of any compromise, but refused.

A trillion dollar entitlement that empowers the federal government to force individuals to purchase insurance. I don't know how you compromise from that starting point.
BTW, the GOP didn't have the power to push anything. Nancy and Harry didn't allow it. This was passed by democrats through bribes and backroom deals. This was even unpopular to many in their own party.
I thought Bush damaged the Republicans with his policy. Obama may have damaged the Democrats national influence for a generation.
Are you serious, tort reform was taken off the table by the Dems very early in the health-care discussion so as not to upset their lawyer lobby. The Reps didn't have enough power to stop what the Dems wanted to do, check the vote all Dems and no Reps vote for the bill and it still passed in the Senate. Soon there will be enough Reps in Congress to stop these horrible bills that none of them read b4 they can further damage our fragile economy. The Dems also conveniently forgot to include Freddie and Fannie in the housing bill when they were the main cause of the housing meltdown, why do you suppose they did that.
I agree.....then go forth, learn about your body and care for it.....as for medical care go pay for it....I didn't go to school to work as a nurse for free.....as I'm sure folks didn't sign on to be government employees for free either(hence PEF and others)

unfortunately we fail to realize that the world is not equal....and there ARE choices between needs and wants......do I want a boat and a house on the lake,,,,sure,,,,,could I afford the upkeep and forgoe any other form of entertainment to do so, if I chose.....as for healthcare--if one finds it a priority they will make it a priority, you may not be able to pay for your kids college--so--let 'em work for it, they too have a choice.....cable? is it needed?.....xbox? is it needed?....more than 2 pair of jeans is it needed?......every one's 'comfort level' is different..... what everyone can take as a trial is different......we cant equalize 'healthcare'......does sh*t happen?--YUP! Just because Steve Jobs has what he has doesn't make it mine......maybe he requires a softer pillow in life to survive and maybe he worked hard for it.....we cant go around talking about what we dont have and look at what 'they' have......although folks like Paris Hilton and the Kardashians really irritate the hell out of me.....they make NOTHING but stupid talk.....

$75,000 A YEAR AND CAN'T AFFORD HEALTH INSURANCE???
There are plenty of folks that make much less than that and pay for health care. Some of my friends and family for example!!!
If someone can't afford health insurance on a $75K income, then perhaps they should get rid of the flat screen tv, cancel cable, get rid of their cell phones, don't go out to eat as much, move to affordable housing, give up smoking/drinking etc........These are NOT entitlements or needs.......they are WANTS!
Sorry, but if ya can't afford health care on a monthly salary of $6K a month.....you need to get your priorities in order!
My wife's girlfriend is a nurse and works for BC/BS and said it is bullcrap for someone to say they can't afford health care WITH a pre-existing condition on a yearly salary of $75K!!

Bumble... Now go and read my post again...
This guy has a PRE EXISTING CONDITION... Did you miss that part?
I don't remember the exact numbers, but because of his pre-existing condition, most insurance companies won't insure him at all. The few who will offer him a health care policy, are at a very high price... thousands a month, and with very little coverage. The lifetime cap on coverage for him is very low... possibly in the $100,000 range. With a co-pay of $4,000 or $5,000 he will only be able to collect after he has paid the co-pay.
This isn't a case of someone who'd rather buy toys than health care... it's a case of no reasonable affordable health care is available.

Read MY post again! I mentioned PRE EXISTING!!! I don't know what state this person lives in, but in NYS BC/BS will cover for pre-existing conditions. In fact, people were told that if they denied someone for a pre-existing condition....THEY COULD BE SUED!!! Same with CDPHP!
I know people who have switched from BC/BS to CDPHP because they offered better coverage for their specific pre-existing condition......at no extra charge. The opposite has happened with folks changing to BC/BS!!!
So tell this $75K a year person to get their priorities in line and do some research, but don't look to the TAXPAYERS/GOVERNMENT to foot the bill......it isn't necessary in this instance!
'people are not entitled to take the fruits of another's labor'!!!
The unaffordable, tax paid, government health care beast is NOT the answer here! Let the insurance companies cross state boarders like all other forms of insurance. (car/life...etc) Increase competition and lower costs!

either way.....the insurance companies will 'rate' you out via cost and national healthcare will 'rate' you out via time and treatment or the slowness of it.....
