Kevin has it right, it has nothing to do with Mertz (he doesn't singlehandely control political destinations) it had to do with those in power going the wrong direction. Littlefield, Mertz, McGarry and Oconnor just happened to have the right message without a major party line.

He obviously outsmarted every Rep that didn't support him (because they are all now out of office), the local GOP fell completely apart without him (and continues to spiral out of control), he was apparently used by the right people because Amedore won, when the Reps had him on the ticket they won and won big, and while I thought he was a hasbeen, the posters on this blog keep his name enshrined in local politics. IF, after all this, he's still able to generate so much emotion from the politicos, then he needs to be on the next GOP ticket.
As a side not, I have it on very good authority that he will never run for office again. That should make every democrat in the town very happy. But Bumble, you would have my support to run again, they are obviously very worried about you coming back. Keep pissing them off, it means they are still worried about you.
Sorry to include you in the list boomer, you obviously get it. Buchanan is still running the party, word is that he is calling some sort of meeting to bring all the Reps back together. From what I hear, he is going to tell everyone to get together or get out, not sure he can do that, but I think it's more symbolic than anything else. Probably still good for the Dems that he's still at the helm.
