I didn't accuse the pope personally of misconduct, but the Pope as it's leader and the Catholic Church in general has looked the other way, allowed the abuse, and refused to prosecute sex abusers for years.

You mentioned teachers... if a teacher knows of abuse and doesn't act, she has committed a crime.  The same applies to priests.

Bottom line is that the catholic church, along with other denominations, have gone worldly/government! It all boils down to $$$$$ and control!!

The Church's policy towards pedophiles or any priest caught in a "sexual scandal" is quite clear and
concise.    Zero tolerance.  A number of priests have been removed in the past decade since the new
policy was instated.   And in all cases the Church in America does cooperate with the local authorities.

Bear in mind that for many decades -- secular psychologists believed that pedophiles could be treated.It was only in the 1990's that that view began to change.   The church had relied on the opinion of thesesecular psychologists for the old policy or lack of policy  that was in place up until about a decade ago.

I also believe that the media and many folks have been only focusing on the problem as it exists in
the Catholic Church  .. and giving other churches and other occupations a free pass.  
When a female teacher has sex with an under age student --- she gets to do the Oprah/Dr Phil/Ellen talk show circuit and eventually gets a book deal.      When that Rabbi got caught "touching" some
young boys in Albany -- he pretty much got a "slap on the wrist".

Using the phrase "heil hitler" as hyperbole on a forum isn't hate speech.  On a internet forum where body language can't be used, using over the top wording to make your point shouldn't automatically label someone a bigot.  It's ridiculous.  The fact that people want to marginalize somebody's point of view because of the particular wording is unfair.  Liberals are famous for this sh!t.  Juan William's lost his job at NPR over the same thing.  NPR's CEO actually alluded that Juan Williams may be mentally unstable during a televised press conference because of the feelings he expressed.

How these cases were dealt with in the past and how they are dealt with today is like the difference between
night and day.   In the past, most victims' families did NOT want to pursue criminal charges nor have the
situation made public.   Also, secular psychologists believed that pedophilia was "cureable" - so priest were
sent off for "treatment" and then returned to ministry.   If the "experts" were wrong in the professional advice
that they gave the Church back then, i believe that THEY - the "experts" are just as culpable and deserve
a share of the blame.

I will make one note -- without naming the Capital District reporter who himself was arrested a couple
decades ago for having sex with a minor in a public bathroom.   It is interesting that this reporter is still
reporting for the same media outlet  and is often brought in to do a "hatchet piece" on the Catholic Church
whenever an incident of abuse comes up involving a member of the Catholic Church.  No wonder our
local media outlets are losing readership/viewership along with their credibility.

And who were the victims suppose to go to with this alarming information? These priests should have been arrested and went to trial, put in jail or had to register as a sex offender.....just like every other sex offender.

But nooooooooo.....their only recourse was to go back to the same institution that knew and yet turned a blind eye to the situation.

What was this the trade off for 'government money' and for the catholic church to continue being the arm of the welfare system? Don't make much sense does it???

Now don't get me wrong here.....just like the catholic priests, other religious leaders who have committed the same crime should have received the same medial blitz. BUT THEY DIDN'T!!
