The 20th is heavily Republican -- I never expected Murphy to win when he first ran. I never expected him to win this year - 2010. The GOP found a good candidate in Chris Gibson. He is certainly better than Tedisco and Treadwell ..the past GOP candidates. Chris will win and serve the 20th district for at least a dozen years or more .. unless he has his eyes set on a higher office. |

As I have said before, polling had been showing that Gibson moved even with Murphy about 2 weeks ago -- with some polls showing him UP a couple points and some down a couple points .. but all within the margin of error. Then last week, Murphy appeared to have a "meltdown" at one of the debates and his negative ads against Gibson appeared to have turned voters angry at Murphy NOT Gibson. So I am NOT surprised to see a poll showing Gibson UP by 9 points -- the 20th is a traditionally Republican District ( or more correctly .. the area covered by the current 20th is a traditionally Republican district). Ironically, the District number -- #22 -- used to be in New York City -- when our state had a dozen more members of Congress .. the old #22 when it was in New York City was the district that DioGuardia beat Bella Abzug in -- again, when the district # 22 represented part of "the city".
If you look at the area covered by the current #22 -- the Hudson Valley portion has been represented by Republicans since the Civil War with the only exceptions being Ned Pattison, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Scott Murphy (I believe that accounts for about 8-10 years combined over the last 145 years). |

Murphy is going to lose this race because he just doesn't have what it takes to vote for what the people want. Murphy was the decising vote on the health care bill and his constituants didn't want it but he voted for it anyway, now its biting him in the butt. Listen to the people otherwise get the boot. |

IMHO -- Murphy is an ambitious guy ... grew up in Missouri ... came to Manhattan and got rich .. married into a HUGE family from Washington and Warren Counties in NY --- and got lucky when Gillibrand got tapped to go to the Senate. If Gillibrand had not been tapped to go to the Senate - he would have found another Congressional District to run in - and he had the money to bank roll a campaign almost anywhere. He "ran to the right" to win the first time. Then took a huge gamble and tried to "play along to get along" in DC which is more to the "left" right now. Better to run as who you are --- and if elected, govern/serve as who you are --- and let those who are annoyed by that stew in their own kettle. |

Now he can go back home to Missouri and run for public office. This is over. Chris Gibson in a landslide over Scott Murphy. We have enough DEMS here without importing more from Missouri. Murphy ended his political career by supporting horrible Obamacare after lying about it back here. |

He could stay in Washington County and create real jobs there -- but then he would actually have to move there from Manhattan. |

I know his wife's family -- so I am not prepared to send them packing to Missouri. Even though it is nice state. |

Gibson defeats Murphy in 20th Congressional District Heavily Republican district returns to GOP Wednesday, November 3, 2010 By Tatiana Zarnowski (Contact) Gazette Reporter
20TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT — Riding a wave of anti-incumbent and pro-Republican sentiment, Chris Gibson recaptured Jerry Solomon’s former district for the GOP, something he said in April he hoped to accomplish. He did it by a margin of 10 percentage points, with most precincts reporting late Tuesday. According to the unofficial election results, Gibson won about 55 percent of the vote and U.S. Rep. Scott Murphy garnered about 45 percent. Results are unofficial for several days until certified by the state Board of Elections. Taking the stage for his victory speech about 11:30 p.m. before an overjoyed crowd at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs Tuesday night, Gibson was magnanimous toward Murphy. “Chris! Chris! Chris!” his supporters chanted. “The groundswell of support is unbelievable,” said John Herrick, Saratoga Springs Republican Committee chairman.................>>>>....................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2010/nov/03/1103_gibson/
