How about some sort of manufacturing, but you'd have to cut taxes for some of the businesses to ever think of coming here.  There's been plenty, but the continuation of the excessive taxes throughout the county, complicated by the PILOT agreements that are given to any business that comes in makes it impossible for anyone to come in.  If they were to come in, they wouldn't stick around too long, or at least until after their PILOT is up... and most companies don't want to put down roots only to pull up in a few years.  We've had our manufacturing here, but we've scared it away with high taxes and the high cost of living means that anyone that would run a manufacturing plant around here will have costs that are just too high to stay competitive.

PILOTS should not be handed out like lollipops -- which the Rotterdam IDA did for years.  Also there
should be performance guarantees -- if the company gets a PILOT but fails to create the # of jobs
it promised ... it would forfeit the pilot.    Also -- the number of years to phase out the pilot should be
shortened from  the current 16 years to say 5 years.

there are other incentives that the IDA can offer first (if needed)

Personally, I would only offer a PILOT to a big project ... for example ... say that a Nordstroms wanted
to build a store at Rotterdam Square Mall  --- a store that would generate $40 million in sales a year --
that would generate  $1.6 million in COUNTY SALES TAX  .... thus a PILOT would be justified IF it was
the difference between that kind of store building in Rotterdam or say .. down the road in Guilderland.

Maybe they would have to prove it by bringing in more money via sales tax revenue to the town / county than the total amount they are receiving a break through the PILOT.

that would be helpful

did you ever attend meetings of the Rotterdam IDA ?    I used to when the old board was in place ...
it really was a joke how they handed out the facade grants ---- in some cases WITHOUT completed
applications and WITHOUT documentation to verify that the work had been completed

Except that this was the OLD  Rotterdam IDA board that didn't want Metroplex help ... and as a result our
town lost out on a lot of potential economic development.

The NEW Rotterdam IDA board is much better run.

No, sorry, I haven't had enough time to get to these meetings, and I have no clue when they are held, or where they are held.  As far as finding enough time in my schedule to make it to more meetings, I don't know if I could find that or not.  My time is quite limited as it is at this time, but I'm all for the people knowing what is going on in the government.  Since OSM now has a channel wide open for all government meetings, maybe they can be taped and put on there.

You know, speaking of OSM, I turned it on, just to see what the government channel was like today.  Maybe I caught them at a bad time, but it was the beginning of a Schenectady City Council meeting.  They had the audio, but no video.  Maybe it was a one time instance, but I don't know.

It was the METROPLEX that wouldn't work with the RIDA!!! Ya know....it's called that 'working together thing' that the liberal socialists keep boasting about and everyone else is laughing about!! IMHO

RIDA wouldn't work with Metroplex

the only people laughing about the "working together works" are the folks with the aluminum foil antennas
attached to the collanders on their head ... listening to Art Bell at midnight .. and waiting for the "mother
ship" to beam them up and take them to   Tea Party Land

I've heard that the OSM "technical issues" are quite frequent.  They never should have fired Mr Harnden, that was a BAD bonehead move. (I think I spelled his name right)

Mr. Santabarbara is not incompetent .. I just prefer the way Mr. Mallozzi is running the Rotterdam IDA.

This is not necessarily a national business ... Schenectady County doesn't have a decent candy
store  .....   we should start a petition to get either  Krause's or Saratoga Sweets to open a branch
store here in Rotterdam.

Schenectady County needs a decent place to get good home made candy.

if only we had a decent candy store in the county
