Raise a toast --- to all the people who came forward to run for public office .. win or lose .. you made the
effort.

Raise a toast --- to all those who went out and voted ... you keep our democratic republic going strong.

Raise a toast --- to all the spouses and families of the candidates ... you sacrificed a lot so your loved one
could do his/her civic duty.

Raise a toast --- to the San Francisco Giants .....  because you won the World Series and the Yankees didn'tfor a change.

Raise a toast --- oops .. all out of scotch ..

A belated Feast of Saint Andrew's greeting to all --- I hope you started to prepare your Christmas pudding!

Everyone wishes they were Scottish  ... but only the privileged few were blessed to be
Let's raise a toast to Caledonia and sing a song or two:

Come by the hills to the land where fancy is free.
And stand where the peaks meet the sky and the loughs meet the sea,
Where the rivers run clear and the bracken is gold in the sun;
And the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

Come by the hills to the land where life is a song.
And stand where the birds fill the air with their joy all day long,
Where the trees sway in time and even the wind sings in tune;
And, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

Come by the hills to the land where legend remains.
The stories of old, fill the heart and may yet come again,
Where the past has been lost and the future is still to be won;
And, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.
And, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

Mountains of Mourne

Oh Mary this London's a wonderful sight With people here workin' by day and by night They don't sow potatoes, nor barley, nor wheat But there's gangs of them diggin' for gold in the street At least when I asked them that's what I was told So I just took a hand at this diggin' for gold But for all that I found there I might as well be In the place where the dark Mourne sweep down to the sea.

There's beautiful girls here, Oh never you mind Beautiful shapes nature never designed lovely complexions of roses and cream But let me remark with regard to the same That if at that those roses you venture to sip The colours might all come away on your lips So I'll wait for the wild rose that's waitin' for me In the place where the dark Mourne sweep down to the sea.

You remember young Davey Mc Clarin of course Well sure, now, he's round here with the rest of the force I saw him one day as I was crossin' the strand And he stopped the whole street with a wave of his hand And as we stood talkin' of days that are gone The whole town of London stood there to look on But for all his great powers he's wishful like me To be back where the dark Mourne sweep down to the sea But for all his great powers he's wishful like me To be back where the dark Mourne sweep down to the sea

I would love to travel to Scotland .. and if Ms. Savage wanted to come along .. I would happily take her on
a tour of places connected to my ancestors --- would also take her to afternoon tea in Edinburgh and a tour
of Balmoral when it is open to the public.
Actually, I would be happy to take most of the members of the County Leg on that tour -- but they would
have to pay their own way -- I don't want to get tangled up in all those lobbying law hassles.

Mull of kintyre

Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre
Far have I traveled and much have I seen
Dark distant mountains with valleys of green.
Past painted deserts the sunsets on fire
As he carries me home to the mull of kintyre.

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Sweep through the heather like deer in the glen
Carry me back to the days I knew then.
Nights when we sang like a heavenly choir
Of the life and the times of the mull of kintyre.

Mull of kintyre
Mull of kintyre
Mull of kintyre

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

You can put your posts where you like ... I'll put mine where I like.

Oh .. and by the way .. had a great conversation with some Jewish friends of mine last weekend.
They found nothing offensive in my discussion of the First Advent and the New Advent  --- you know
why ????? Because this is a theme that has been discussed by Catholics and Jews for a couple of decades
now -- and it respects the fact that both faiths are joyfully awaiting the Messiah.

Although this is not really about Scotland ... some of Queen Elizabeth's underclothes are up for
auction .. apparently she left them behind on an airplane and the man who found them is auctioning
them off.

Makes you think -- how did her underclothes get left behind and maybe the Queen is a lot more
fun than her personal appearance would suggest.

Raising a toast  (good old eggnog with a healthy dose of scotch in it)  to all the good and decent,
positive thinking people who are working to make our community, our county, our state, our nation
and our world a better place to live.

May the joy of the Christ-Child warm your hearts and may HIS peace be with you through the New Year.
