Farley is a disgrace as our State Senator  ... refusing to denounce the racist, homophobic, and insensitive
comments of Carl Paladino.     No one wants this guy to represent us anymore ...  by his own admission
Farley said, "I was only part of the problem"  ..........

by his own words spoken and unspoken .. he has sealed the argument for his firing by the voters

SARATOGA COUNTY
Senate, Assembly candidates lock horns
Savage, incumbent Farley clash over taxes, jobs

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Candidates for the 44th Senate District race clashed Tuesday night during a face-to-face debate sponsored by the Saratoga County League of Women Voters. Candidates for the 105th Assembly District seat also spoke at the event.
Senate candidate Susan Savage, a Democrat, came charging out of the gate, using her opening statement to attack Republican incumbent state Sen. Hugh Farley. Savage called Farley craven for voting to make Pedro Espada Jr. the temporary president of the Senate during an abortive coup of that chamber, leaving him “just a heartbeat away from being governor.” Farley, who is seeking his 18th two-year term, thanked Savage “for the very warm opening statement” and later accused her of over-emphasizing her accomplishments as chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature. “I don’t think a miracle has occurred in Schenectady,” he said, referring to an ad Savage’s campaign put out in which she said she helped create 3,500 jobs and cut taxes four times in the last six years in the county. “Taxes have not gone down in Schenectady County. What has hap- pened in Schenectady County is not what you want emulated in Saratoga County,” said Farley to an audience of about 100 people in the Maple Avenue Middle School auditorium. .....................>>>>.......................>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00101&AppName=1

Just some thoughts ....

34 years ago -- I attended the debate between Hugh Farley and the late State Senator Fred Isabella.
My mother was a Republican and a volunteer for Farley ... in fact, on several occasions my brothers and
I helped my mother stuff envelopes and do other volunteer work for Mr. Farley's campaign.

Hugh Farley was at the "top of his game" at the debate in 1976.   He offered hope for a change in the
way Albany was being run at the time  (and it really hasn't changed all that much since then)  ...  he was
a bright, energetic newcomer full of ideas and promises.

The Hugh Farley that I saw at the October 12, 2010 debate has changed much from his younger self.
Not on "top of his game" ... he seemed tired -- disoriented -- lacking in energy .... and more
importantly  lacking in the  "fire in the belly" to promote change in Albany.    Instead, he was defending
the status quo and his part in it.

My family has known the Farleys for years.    Senator Farley had his time in the sun -- and his
opportunity to make a difference in Albany.    He should so us all a favor and step aside .. and save
the last bit of self respect that he can muster.

That's why there should be term limits.......eventually it takes EVERYTHING you have from your personal being and you become a shell of who you
once were......and what you tolerated, even if you knew it was 'a little off' you start to do and become........

Time to mooooooove on Mr. Farley and Ms. Savage........

Mr. Farley said he was for term limits ... of 12 years  ...   which begs the question ..  why did he not
step aside  ON HIS OWN ... in 1978   ???????

I believe in term limits ... but one doesn't have to wait for a law to be passed ...
the elected official could have the honesty to self-impose a term limit if  he (farley) really meant what
he said....
and the voters should be willing to fire  a 34 year veteran of the State Senate  .. and stop thinking of
excuses to send the guy back for an 18th term.

If a politician says he/she is for term limits .. then he/she should voluntarily step aside.

6 two-year terms is more than enough for a State Legislator --- until a term limit law is passed ---
they should just not run for the 7th term.

There are already term limits in place. It is on election day!! Supporting term limits is just a way of telling the electorate that they are 'dumb'. IMHO

The electorate would just like to see more viable candidates. That is why the tea party candidates are doing so well nationally.

Obviously, the voters get to make the decision on how long a person is in office.

However, my point is that Farley SAYS he is in favor of term limits ... and says that 12 years or
6 terms sounds about right.     He SAYS that ... but he doesn't back up his words with his actions ..
he has been there 34 years or 17 terms.     IF he believes in term limits ... he should LEAD BY
EXAMPLE and step aside ... should have done it 22 years ago.

President Washington LED BY EXAMPLE -- he believed in term limits -- 2 four year terms as president-- and he backed up his beliefs by his actions.   He voluntarily chose not to seek a 3rd term, and doing
so he set an example that predated the Constitutional Amendment limiting terms by almost
160 years.
