Couple told to take down wind turbine

    A couple that owns property near Saratoga Lake was ordered by the Saratoga building inspector to remove a 30-foot-tall wind turbine that was generating enough electricity to power all of the lights and the air conditioning in the Route 9P house.
    Salvadore and Susan DiSiena said they had been enjoying the free production of power for about two weeks when Saratoga Building Inspector Gilman Albert told them they had to remove the turbine until they get a special-use permit from the town.
    Salvadore DiSiena said he was shocked to receive the order.
    “The turbine is portable; it’s not a permanent structure,” he said. “While we were using it, our house [electric] meter wasn’t budging. I find it strange that the government wants us to use alternative energy and then the town tells us to take down the wind turbine.”
    Saratoga Town Supervisor Thomas Wood III said the town’s concern is that the uninspected turbine could fall onto a neighbor’s property.
    “We have nothing against wind turbines; they are included in our zoning,” Wood said. “We want to have it positioned on the property so that if it did fall, it would not fall on the neighbor’s land.”
    Susan DiSiena said her lot is only 40 feet wide so it would be impossible to avoid it falling on the neighbor’s land if it toppled.
    “Our neighbor has a dead tree that’s three times as high as the turbine, but the town isn’t asking them to take it down,” she said. “The turbine is not huge; it has fins that rotate with very little wind.” ................>>>>...........................>>>>........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01101&AppName=1
