The Recession Is Over Monday, September 20, 2010, 11:52am EDT | Modified: Monday, September 20, 2010, 12:00pm
In case you missed it, the recession ended in June. That’s June 2009, and that’s according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. The Cambridge, Massachusetts, organization said its Business Cycle Dating Committee met on Sunday and “determined that a trough in business activity occurred in the U.S. economy in June 2009. The trough marks the end of the recession that began in December 2007 and the beginning of an expansion.” For the second quarter of 2010, the average of real Gross Domestic Product and real Gross Domestic Income was 3.1 percent above its low in the second quarter of 2009. It remained 1.3 percent below the previous peak, reached in the fourth quarter of 2007. The recession lasted 18 months and is the longest of any recession since World War II. Recessions in 1973-75 and 1981-82 each lasted 16 months. The group noted that it wasn’t declaring an end to difficult economic times or that the economy “has returned to operating at normal capacity.” In this week’s Business Review [Sept. 17-23], a number of business leaders are still reeling from the down economy. John Paeglow founder and president of book manufacturer IBT Global said his job “just is not as much fun as it used to be. ... It’s the most challenging time in my 20 years in the business.” The committee said that “any future downturn of the economy would be a new recession.” So, is the recession over for you?..........>>>>.........>>>>...........Read more: The recession is over - The Business Review (Albany)

The RECESSION is OVER. BUT The effects of the Bush Economic Meltdown continues to drag this country down.
As the story states... if another recession occurs, it will be an OBAMA RECESSION. |

The mess we're in right now started long before Bush ever took office. It goes all the way back to FDR and got worse every administration after that. |

I think that proclaiming "the recession is over" could be Obama's equivalent of Bush's "mission accomplished". Way too early to declare victory on the economic front. We face the possibility of DEFLATION -- which is one of the signs that we are headed for or in a depression. Consumer confidence and spending is flailing. Unemployment numbers remain high. --- and with record deficits and national debt - I don't think that there is the political will to fund another "stimulus" (and I am not even going to address my thoughts on the success or failure of that strategy). |

Obama didn't "proclaim the recession is over"... the National Bureau of Economic Research did, based on data that backs up their proclamation. |

Well - technically - George W Bush did not hang the "mission accomplished" banner on that air craft carrier either. In both cases, it is the perception that actually matters -- in both cases the "White House" was happy to let the perception (that the war or, in this case, the recession was over) get out through the print and broadcast media. In both cases, I belive it is/was premature. Hence my warning that this may come back to haunt the president. |

"Well - technically", the crew upon that carrier weren't all that pleased, to spend an extra two days getting home, so that Chimpy Mcflightsuit might have yet another photo opportunity
There isn't a single chance in hell, that that a**hole knows how to fly a plane. |

Nor were they pleased when factories were closed cause Obamanot had to visit to tout the recession being over and "job creation" (like at the GM/Jeep plant in Michigan 2 weeks ago - where yesterday they were caught drinking and smoking pot) http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-ap-mi-chryslerworkers-t,0,1539808.story |

Yet George W Bush flew planes in the Air National Guard .. so maybe you better rethink your nasty comments. |

Yes, the TEXAS air national guard. I guess he was protecting us against the Mexican Air Force. If there had been a SINGULAR, SOLITARY, person that could say they've "served" with him, they would have been paraded around to every last campaign stop. But that person didn't exist. Not unlike Rudy (the transvestite adulterer) Gulianni, that couldn't find even ONE. SINGLE. MEMBER. of the NYPD, or FDNY, to speak in his favor during the campaign, or that person would have most certainly spoke at every "whistle stop". I know, sure as hell, if I had served along side of Chimpy Mcflightsuit, I would have come foward, because really, can you think of anybody at that time whom you would rather owe you a favor? |
