Paladino promises to remake GOP
By Jimmy Vielkind Capitol Bureau
Published: 05:00 a.m., Friday, September 17, 2010

BUFFALO -- For the second time in three months, Republican State Committee Chairman Ed Cox watched his favored candidate go down in flames.

A day after the primary vote, he offered this explanation for Carl Paladino's drubbing of former U.S. Rep. Rick Lazio, who had the support of Cox and much of the established apparatus of Republican New York: "What we are trying to do in this year of the Tea Party is to have a very open process," he said by phone Wednesday, after praising Paladino's victory speech and heeding his call for unity with an ex post facto endorsement.

Being ignored by his fellow GOP leaders is "just part of the process," Cox said. "Different county chairs backed different candidates, and that is part of a party that is indeed really surging and alive."

Perhaps. But it was more likely the best frame Cox could put around the portrait on display Tuesday night at the Ellicott Square Building, where Paladino and his aides pledged that their next objective would be remaking the New York GOP for a new century.

"The people have redefined the Republican Party that they want in the future," Paladino said after his victory speech. "Those old party leaders -- who have been in denial -- have now heard from the people, and they've got two choices: do the people's work, or quit and go home.".....................>>>>..................>>>>.................http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Paladino-promises-to-remake-GOP-660548.php

maybe Paladino can do what Pierre Renfret failed to do ... get less than 50,000 votes statewide and get
the GOP booted off the ballot for 4 years

I think he already has more than that, based on the primary turn out. How bad is your political astuteness to make a dumb comment like that. If it were Loozio on the GOP line then you could make that argument.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The scenario is entirely different. He already trounced the guy on the minor line by a gigantic margin. London was on the C line when it meant something. He almost outpolled Rinfret. That was the only year I missed voting because I couldn't leave my business and had no one to hold the fort so I couldn't make it down in time. It still gnaws at me that I couldn't get in the vote for London. London did not primary the GOP line so he didn't do what Paladino just did- which was obliterate Rick Loozio.

The Primary is NOT the general election.  Teabaggers pushed Paladino over Lazio... but in a general election, TeaBaggers will be only a few percent of the total vote.

I expect the GOP vote to be split 65%/35% for Paladino... and Cuomo wins.

I don't think you can say that the "tea party" is a small percentage of the vote -- for 3 reasons
#1 - does anybody really know how many "tea party" people are out there .. since it is not a
an official party .. no one has to register .. so WE JUST DON"T KNOW how big or small the
total number of "tea partiers" there are out there
#2 - we don't know how many voters .. who may claim NOT to be "tea partiers" .. are still
strongly influenced by one or more of the arguments made by "pro tea party" candidates
or candidates supported by the "tea party"
#3 - and this is the big result of the GOP Gubernatorial Primary -- all the "experts" said that
Paladino could not beat Lazio because .. primary elections have low turn out and usually
only the "hard core establishment party members" vote ----- and yet  (even in the polling
place where I vote) I saw lines GOPers waiting to vote like i had never seen before for a
primary  ... and on top of that  Paladino went from 2-1 BEHIND to 2-1 ahead of Lazio
between the last minute public opinion polls and the ACTUAL election day results.

That is why I believe it is difficult to predict the outcome of this race ..now .. and depending on
how the candidates conduct themselves ... even just before the General Election.

My sense is this -- if Andrew Cuomo underestimates Carl Paladino -- and campaigns as if he is
no real threat (the way Spitzer treated Faso 4 years ago)... then I believe that Paladino could pull
off an upset.
The Attorney-General has been to low key in his campaign up to now .. playing it too safe ..
and I just don't think that is the campaign he needs to be waging with less than 6 weeks until
the final vote.

I agree that these are not normal times and the usual election scenario may not apply.  We'll all find out in 6 weeks!

these are unusual times and there are ALOT of dissidents........there is no Tea Party 'Party' for a reason.......the voters have decided to take out the
trash.....and since the difference between both majors parties is moot......TAKE 'EM ALL DOWN.....they eat at the same trough....it's their own fault.....

@DVR

I think I can GUARANTEE Paladino at LEAST 58,000 votes for a logical reason

1. He got 30,000 republican signatures to get him on the republican ballot

2. He got 28,000 democrat, conservative, and unaligned signatures to get him onto the TaxPayer line

3. It's logical to assume that the people who were willing to sign those petitions are willing to vote for him

4. Presto! 58,000 votes

However, it's also logical to assume that the same 270,000 people who voted for him in the primary are going to vote for him again in the general, so that brings his numbers up to 298,000 (assuming that the same people who signed his petitions as democrats, conservatives and unaligned will actually vote for him)

On the other hand, he IS running on the TaxPayer line as well as the republican line. It IS possible (however unlikely) that he gets ALL his votes on the TaxPayer line rather than the republican line, in which case, the republican line would go the way of the dodo

And then of course, there's Rick Lazio. What if he doesn't get 50,000 votes ?  Bye bye conservative line

Mike Long had better make a decision quick

We're in uncharted waters here, but, I do have one prediction...

It's going to be a very entertaining few weeks

Go Paladino !!!

Lazio needs to walk away with dignity and if he EVER wants to continue with a political future. People really are 'mad as hell' and the last thing the people want is someone like Lazio to screw up perhaps the last and only chance NYS has for reform.

Please Mr. Lazio, walk away....now! Put your ego aside and do it for the NYS taxpayers!!!
