I agree. If the cons want to keep their line, they shouldn't gamble on this race to secure it. Lazio has to withdraw.

Not sure if Lazio withdraws that the Conservatives can legally take his name off the ballot and
switch it to Paladino.

Lazio is the Conservative candidate.  He can withdraw from the race, but no one else can be added to that ballot until they hold another primary election.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

They can't hold another primary election between now and General Election Day ... if Lazio drops out -- his
name would still be on the ballot on the Conservative line  and  if the Conservative line for Governor gets
less than 50,000 votes state-wide the Conservative Party in New York would lose its guaranteed ballot
line for future elections.

As of this morning, The State Conservative Party Chairman is saying that Lazio will remain their candidate
on the Gubernatorial line.    He also thinks that Lazio can actually win on just that 1 line -- he is taking a
huge gamble that I don't think willpay off in the end.

Another interesting note --   Paladino's candidate for Lt. Governor did not win the GOP primary but is on
the ballot for the "tea party" that Paladino created --
this means that all the votes for Paladino on the new party line can NOT be added to the votes for Paladino
on the GOP line  .. Paladino will have to win outright on 1 or the other line.

Late word is that they have to convince  Lt. Gubernatorial candidate Ognibene to step aside from the new
party line .. so they can insert the man who won the GOP primary for Lt. Governor ... in order to resolve this
little "wrinkle".

Finally, a real race for N.Y. governor
Published: 12:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010

With Carl Paladino's landslide win in the Republican primary, we now have a real race for governor. The whipping Paladino gave Rick Lazio means the Tea Party spirit is alive and well, even in liberal New York, and that means we will have a real contest for the voters' affections.

Andrew Cuomo and his team should now be very keenly focused and even a little bit nervous about the campaign ahead.

Although I am still agnostic about there being intelligent life left in the state Republican Party, it is clear that disaffected new voters are rising up against the political establishment.

That a Democratic (big government) philosophy has dominated government in New York even when Republicans held power could make this a tough election even for some of them. But, given that the Democrats now hold power and are most closely associated with big spending and the resulting deficits, high taxes and debt, they're the ones most in danger come November.

Democrats know that no one gave Republican Chris Christie any chance of beating New Jersey's Gov. Jon Corzine last year, but it happened. And Cuomo and the Democratic Party know that the bluest of all the blue states, Massachusetts, elected a Republican to what had been Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat. There is obviously something new in the political air.

No matter what one's political persuasion, the involvement by new voters is good for New York because it forces politicians to actively campaign and vie for our votes.

Nothing is worse than a coronation, a lesson we learned the hard way with Eliot Spitzer, who everyone knew would be the next governor a full two years before his election. The more Andrew Cuomo is compelled to campaign and debate one-on-one against Carl Paladino, the better it will be for New York.

Maybe Paladino will use his opening statement at the debate to tell racist and sexist jokes.

Lazio, get out of Paladino’s way

Rick Lazio should acknowledge Republican voters who have overwhelmingly selected Carl Paladino as the best candidate to challenge longtime liberal Democratic state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo for governor.

Next step is for Lazio to decline the Conservative Party endorsement. The Conservative Party committee on vacancies can stand up for its long lost principles of lower taxes, limited government and free enterprise by endorsing Paladino. Lazio can go back to Wall Street earning several million dollars per year.

Voters would be offered a real choice, rather than Lazio remaining on the ballot as a spoiler.

His opening statement addressing state spending and waste should begin with this joke.

"Do you know what the highest paid government position in this country is? Anybody know? ... It is working under New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. It pays like $5,000 an hour."

can't argue with reason .. so you resort to an offensive ethnic slur  .. par for the course

I am that ethnicity that you think I am using as a slur.....it was well used amongst 'the family'.......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

as late as Friday -- Mike Long - Conservative party chairman -- had said that all of the county
chairs were 100% behind Lazio carrying on the campaign -- so I don't think that he is backing
out

NYS should really vote for Cuomo because he did so well when he was directing HUD he will fit right in with the rest of the corrupt NYS crowd.
