Ummm Hate to break this to you but Al Gore Won!
Americans voted for Al over Bushy by a margin of over half a million votes.
Gore lost on a technicality that is our Electoral College which is legal, but hardly the 'will of the people'.
Kevin... As you can see above, I acknowledged that the Electoral College is the law of the land. The thread to that point was: ~ "Perhaps like many voters in 2000, the people who voted for George W. Bush just didn't want Al Gore to be President."~ And my response was that the VOTERS VOTED FOR AL GORE... NOT BUSHY! A half million more voters wanted AL GORE to be our president, not Bushy. |

going back to the original message on this thread -- do the "tea party" wins bode well for Democrats? Even though I am a Democrat - I am also a lifelong observer of politics - and my conclusion is that it would be highly unwise to discount the ability of the "tea party" to defeat Democratic candidates across the country. I have not seen the "silent majority" so riled up since 1980 -- when Ronald Reagan won the White House and the GOP captured the US Senate. The voters are upset -- upset with incumbents, upset with high taxes, upset with more and more debt being passed on to the future geneations, and upset with policies that are skewed (or perceived to be skewed) too far too the left. America is basically a conservative country -- swinging too far too the left is bad business -- and whoever doesn't heed the warning signs better be prepared to look for a new job after the election.

IMO, Most voters are disgusted with politics... not angry.
TeaBaggers are all in a RAGE at both Democrats and Republicans, and I believe their passion is genuine. But most voters appear to be suffering from apathy... not anger. |

The TeaBaggers I see are mad as hell...etc.etc. etc.
The Tea Party movement has long tried to make their Conservative movement, an American movement. TeaBaggers do draw some Democrats, but for the most part, TeaBaggers are only rearranging the Republican party.
Ask any American if they pay too much in taxes... the answer is always YES. But ask them if they want to cut education or close the state parks, or not pave their street, and the answer is NO.
There is as much anger at the Republicans of '00-08 as at the Democrats of '09-10. |

Americans have short memories...They are mad at Obama and the Dems, lets be clear. When national polls say the republicans would handle the economy better, its obvious. |

Most Americans, according to the polls, have a negative view of the Tea Party. Obama, is still more popular than Sarah Palin. But the center, & the left, are disillusioned, apathetic, checked out.
The right is the only segment that cares... Hence, Paladino wins the primary, but loses the election. |

Boxy, you just can't get over the past can you? It is what is is and it was what it was. We are HERE today....got it? You are either pathetically obsessed with the bush administration or someone is paying you to continually discredit anything other than the liberal socialist democratic agenda!! You just keep rehashing the same issues over and over and over again, while everyone else is up to snuff with today's issues!! You just don't make sense. |

Bumble... How many times on this board (and others) have you heard about Bill Clintons BJ? Long after the issue, was put to rest... Bill & Monica seemed to always be appropriate. Jimmy Carter is often the target... Is he current???
Just a few weeks ago, I heard about Reverend Wright! Is he history or is he still as current as Bill's BJ?
When some on this board blame Obama for the Bush Economic Meltdown... I also hear about Barney Frank & Housing foreclosures. "It's not Bush's Fault... Blame it on Barney!"
I don't blame you for not wanting to hear about Bush. The entire world regrets the Bush Administration! I wish I could rewind the clock back to Pre-Bush and a better life for all... but unfortunately, George Worst Bush is still a reality.
Conservatives have been running from Bush for years, by saying... SURE BLAME BUSH!!! The World Blames Bush Because It Was His Fault! LOL
If the rules are "no Bush", then also "NO Reagan"! I could Puke every time I've heard Ronny the Raygun's praises on Conservative Message Boards like this one. (The Guy Was Senile for his last term)
***GWB... Undoubtedly the Worst US President in American History!***

If you present the argument like this, you are correct, people will vote no. But if you present the argument as, I can lower your taxes by aligning public employee pensions, public employee heath insurance contributions, and public employee salaries with those in similar industries in the private sector, then the taxpayer will listen and vote YES. The all or nothing argument is a fallacy argument. The informed Tea Party people know this. |

Is it an all or nothing argument about Abortion??? UM... YEA. Is it an all or nothing argument about Guns??? YUP! Is it an all or nothing argument about gay marriage? Mostly. Is it an all or nothing argument about "a Christian Nation". Not all, but almost all. TeaBaggers are ALL OR NOTHING about lots of issues. All There WAY! |

None of the people that I have talked with said that they were "tea party" members -- some are Reps, some are Dems, and some are registered voters but don't belong to any party -- they are of a wide variety of ages .. male and female ..etc What I am trying to say is .. bottomline ... the PEOPLE are upset .. not just those who identify themselves as members of the "tea party". That is why I believe that the "tea party" movement should NOT be underestimated or ignored ... they have connected with a lot of voters out there.
and it is the candidates/parties/movements that make that connection who actually end up winning elections. |
