Not sure what you mean by the "fishing line" between the town, countym and state.

I used the wrong term....I mean.....the clerk is the line for getting things filed on time for $$ or the lack of or the plan of or the
registering of,,,,etc etc.....the clerk could be 'inept' for certain things thereby causing the Administration that's in to 'look poor'....
I have read a number of sites of other towns and the NYS rules reguarding the clerk position......it would be like sandbagging...

It's just a high paying glorified politico clerk/filing job!! I could care less who is any position of town clerks anywhere!! They have no say in ANYTHING regarding laws. They don't make them or vote on them. It is just a stupid popularity contest. They file and hand out garage sale permits. Who really gives a crap who has the position....as long as they are not breaking the law!

Thanks for the clarification -- I agree with you.
The Town Clerk's Office has a lot of different tasks assigned to it -- by state law.
A lot of what the public sees .. is the permits and licensing functions .. but there is
so much more to it.

In many smaller towns in the state -- the Town Clerk may be the only full time elected official
of the town and conduct most of the day to day town business.

Someone forgot to tell EE. "full time" - FDG says she only has to work one day a year.  And yes, Rotterdam IS "small town"

Well that is a provision in state law .. technically .. any elected official from Governor on down ..
could show up for work 1 day a year .. and still collect his/her pay for the whole year.
Not saying it is good, bad, or indifferent .. it is the way the law is written.

I am not contradicting myself ... it is the law that is contradicting itself.
