I don't care if there are ice cream trucks or not. I just don't see the need for them since there is ice cream EVERYWHERE!!! I don't remember hearing anyone from rotterdam saying there was a need for ice cream!

Free markets determine "need" not local government.  If there is no demand for an ice cream truck in Rotterdam, than nobody would buy an ice cream truck and start that business.  

Every want or need of the residents don't have to go through Town Hall.

I have lived and breathed far more than most will ever be able to

Boy urges town to end ban on ice cream trucks

    An 8-year-old boy’s appeal to the Town Board may prompt Rotterdam to end a decades’ long ban on ice cream truck vendors.
    Michael Pierce of Phyllis Court asked Town Board members Wednesday night to give ice cream vendors a second chance — “for the good of all the residents of Rotterdam.” He gave the board a petition with the names of 50 residents, which he collected in a week, supporting his cause.
    Rotterdam banned ice cream truck vendors from town streets more than 30 years ago, following the death of a child who darted in front of a vehicle as she tried to buy an ice cream cone from a mobile concessionary.
    Rotterdam remains the last municipality in the Capital Region with the ban, said Brian Collis. Collis owns a Mr. Ding-A-Ling franchise with 67 trucks serving communities as far as Plattsburg. He attended Wednesday’s Town Board meeting with one of his drivers, Orazio Maimone. Collis said none of his drivers has had an accident in years.
    Niskayuna’s Town Board last year lifted its own decades-long ban on ice cream trucks, following a one-month trial period with no problems. The board took action after grade-schooler Alex Burgess and her friends drafted a petition to get the trucks back.
    Rotterdam Supervisor Frank Del-Gallo, who said he witnessed the tragic accident in the 1970s involving the girl, said he favors allowing the ice cream trucks back into the town. He said vendors today are more cognizant of safety issues.

Del Gallo is full of it. I know the family of the girl personally, and I know who everyone of the people that was there when it happened. He wasn't one of them.

Still, maybe its time to lift the ban, although I would favor limiting  the ice cream trucks to side streets and not well traveled roads.

We drove up a street in Colonie the other day and we did what a sane driver does, slow down and creep past the truck so that we were watching for the little tykes who might come running out from in front of the Ice Cream Truck. A turd worlder ahead of us grew impatient and honked the horn as she had to slow down for the  truck as it slowed, and floored the gas pedal to accelerate around the truck not heeding that there were 5-6 little ones approaching the truck from the curb. The flamboyant outfit and the sticker of the Guyanese flag on the car gave her away as a maddened road warrior with Carribean driver credentials, which means no credentials at all.

Just like when kids play ball in the street, you don't drive like a turd-world mummbler-jumbler who got their Dominican license in a Guyanese cracker Jack box. You drive like a cautious and sane person who passed an American road test. Unfortunately because of the left, the region is filled with manical drivers from the turd world who have no concept of the rules of the road because they were instantaneously awarded driver licenses so as not to offend them for having brown skin tones. Liberal statist bureaucrats don't mind a lot of things but they will do triple hand stands to suck up to people with caramel complexions and offer them licenses even IF they have fake identities and never received American driver training. They certainly don't want to have to ask these central Americans and sundry middle easterners and islanders to have to prove who they are and prove they know how to drive before they hand them a free pass to wage carnage on the roads. So as they migrate into Rotterdam more from Schitnectady, Just keep that in mind. These hygenically challenged nitwits in Halloween costumes blow by school buses, through red lights and stop signs, so don't expect them to be careful around ice cream trucks. But I am for the freedom of the businesses to come back to Rotterdam

In the situation in Rotterdam that led to the ban, the pickup truck that hit the little girl was traveling at an estimated 7mph. But when a trucks bumper and grill is at the height of a little girls head, 7mph is more than enough to cause a fatality. The driver of that vehicle was devastated and the parents held no ill-will against him as they realized there was nothing he could have done differently

We drove at a crawl as we approached the truck with a foot on the brake pedal. Of course the schitbird from Guyana ahead of us knew no better and could care less about our laws, rules or societal conventions as she was on the way to a goat roast, a stink bath or something. This is nothing new for the turd worlders who have infested our community over the past several years, intent on ignoring an pretense of caring about how they assimilate, and of course the left that controls our government has decided to let them do whatever they want without any intervention. Laws and rules are only for native born Americans from what I can see. If you are from the turd world, drive how you want and we won't ask to see your credentials. Go ahead and steal someone's identity and we will be sure to turn the other cheek while we hand you the license some native American had to earn as a privilege.

The DEM ding-a-lings are all in Town Hall. November can't come fast enough.

I don't know what the stats are.........but I'm sure that insurance companies wouldn't cover these vehicles if they were THAT dangerous!! geeezzeeeeee! Let's use a little common sense here!

I am not named Joe and I am a nationalist and am for ending immigration at this time, until all these wonderful turd world immigrants learn how to assimilate and that means also learning how to drive- even though liberals don't CARE how poorly they drive, just so long as they can suck their as$es all day and get them to register democrap. As far as I am concerned we should turn off all immigration at once. These smelly turds are the worst example of immigrants we have ever seen in this country and they are a clear and present danger to all of our citizens and native born Americans (and that mean white, black, Asian and all groups who live here AS AMERICANS.)

Of course you had to pass a road test, and/or take driver's ed. They, by benefit of being just off the banana boat get a free pass by the liberal political establishment. They blow by school buses when they let kids out, they drive over the yellow and white lines, they dont pay attention to "no left hand turn" signs, they don't obey stop signs. I believe bringing the ice cream truck back to Rotterdam is a great idea.  Over the decades long ban manynnew safety features have been added.  Trucks are not permitted to sell on state and county roads where there is heavy traffic. Children are also taught to look for cars prior to crossing the street.  When I was born car seats were not needed i satvon my mothers lap. Now any parent that even thought of attempting this would be crucified by the public. I remember going into kindergarten in the early 1980s and learning about letter people.  Children now exit kindergarten reading books.  I firmly believe that ice cream trucks have changed over the decades and are worth giving a second chance to. For some maybe you remember having ice cream trucks and how you always had the $2 and waited for his arrival. The look on a childs face when they see the ice cream truck coming down their street will be unforgettable. So please consider bringing these trucks back.
