Saudi judge considers paralysis punishment

By SALAH NASRAWI, Associated Press Writer
Thu Aug 19, 3:26 pm ET

CAIRO – A Saudi judge has asked several hospitals in the country whether they could damage a man's spinal cord as punishment after he was convicted of attacking another man with a cleaver and paralyzing him, the brother of the victim said Thursday.
Abdul-Aziz al-Mutairi, 22, was left paralyzed and subsequently lost a foot after a fight more than two years ago. He asked a judge in northwestern Tabuk province to impose an equivalent punishment on his attacker under Islamic law, his brother Khaled al-Mutairi told The Associated Press by telephone from there.
He said one of the hospitals, located in Tabuk, responded that it is possible to damage the spinal cord, but it added that the operation would have to be done at another more specialized facility. Saudi newspapers reported that a second hospital in the capital Riyadh declined, saying it could not inflict such harm.
Administrative offices of two of the hospitals and the court in Tabuk were closed for the Saudi weekend beginning Thursday and could not be reached for comment.
A copy of the medical report from the King Khaled Hospital in Tabuk province obtained by the AP said the same injury al-Mutairi suffers from can be inflicted on his attacker using a nerve stimulant, and inducing the same injuries in the same locations. The report was dated six months ago.
Saudi Arabia enforces strict Islamic law and occasionally doles out punishments based on the ancient legal code of an eye-for-an-eye. However, King Abdullah has been trying to clamp down on extremist ideology, including unauthorized clerics issuing odd religious decrees.......................>>>>.....................>>>>......................http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ml_saudi_justice

***Islamic Cruel Inhuman Barbaric Punishment for Adultery:

Exodus 20:14 "You shall not commit adultery."

Deuteronomy 22:22 "If a man is found sleeping with another man's wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die."

Leviticus 20:10 "If a man commits adultery with another man's wife--with the wife of his neighbor--both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death."

Proverbs 6:32 "But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself."    He destroys himself by being put to death as shown above.

Leviticus 21:9 "And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire."  Why should only a daughter of a priest gets burnt to death if she profanes herself?  Why can't this law apply to all daughters?

Deuteronomy 25:11-12 "If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity."  This doesn't make any sense what so ever!  Why should the woman get her hands cut off for defending her husband?  It's not like she was cheating on him or anything like that!

***Oh, Wait... These Punishments are from the Christian Bible... not the Quran.

For all you good Christians out there who believe in the literal interpretation of the bible... remember... You can't choose which part of the bible you follow... you follow it all or ignore it all!

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Just another isolated incident.  It's not as if Saudi government officials are enforcing these barbaric Islamic punishments,,,oh,,,oh,,,wait, I just re-read the article, and,,,YES, it is a JUDGE asking hospitals if they could medically paralize a person.  Very progressive society, did Newsweek rank them ahead of the United States in the "best country to live in" article?

America is so barbaric we ask that a Mosque be moved a few blocks from the proposed site out of consideration for peoples feelings.  We want to keep marriage between a man and women as defined for thousands of years.  And we actually think people should pay for their own medical care.

Hmmm...Tell me what U.S. judge quoted these passages when issuing a sentence.

I could literally believe each one of those passages, the difference is, I don't have the power of the government to carry them out.  And if I did carry them out, our legal system would lock me up and throw away the key.  And rightfully so.

Lets try to compare apple to apples next time.

Good for them if they refuse to take hold of their own PERSONAL faith.....no different than the dark ages.....why did the dark ages exist? because people
chose to blindly follow the church and superstitions put forth by their religious leaders at the pleasure of the 'powers' of the kings and queens........
dont fret, they will learn.......

FACT: God doesn't NEED earth......he has the whole universe............

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

It's a good thing that Catholics don't expect literal interpretation of the Bible. It's not a textbook, it's a book of literature or stories. We have the Catechism of the Catholic Church for the "laws" of the Church. The Catechism is the teachings of the Catholic Church, and the teachings don't say anything about "an eye for an eye" - instead, we believe in forgiveness.

Scripture scholars tell us that the eye-for-eye mandate is actually an attempt to limit violence in early Hebrew culture. As we know from experience, violence tends to escalate: If you cut off my finger, I retaliate by cutting off your hand. Eye for eye reduced such escalation.

Some people like to think that the Bible is the final word on all matters. It's not.

Some people use the acronym:

B -asic
I -nstruction
B -efore
L -eaving
E -arth

The Bible is however, much more than an instruction manual. The Bible is an invitation to intimacy with God. If it were just an "instruction manual" we could read it all, like some, and still not know God. (Note, "know" to Jewish people suggest "intimacy")

We don't study the Bible to debate others about it's meaning, we pray the Bible so that we may encounter God who is revealing himself to us, throughout.

The word "Bible" (biblia) comes from the Greek, meaning "books". The "Bible" is a collection of books - 73 in all.

because apparently muslims and christians and jews all fight over how 'God' is on their side and that is how we got here in this discussion......

WHO said an eye for an eye?
