Schlessinger, under fire since using a racial slur on her radio show, won't renew her contract. 'I want my 1st Amendment rights back,' she says, citing threats.

A week after igniting controversy with racially charged comments on her nationally syndicated radio show, advice guru Laura Schlessinger went on "Larry King Live" Tuesday evening to announce that she plans to leave the program when her contract runs out at the end of the year.
"I want my 1st Amendment rights back, which I can't have on radio without the threat of attack on my advertisers and stations," Schlessinger said.
She emphasized that she is not retiring. "I will be stronger and freer to say my mind through my books, my YouTube Channel, my blog and my website," she said.
A radio fixture for more than three decades, Schlessinger — best known simply as Dr. Laura — is said by the trade journal Talkers magazine to have the third highest rated talk radio show in the country, trailing only Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Much of that time she was heard locally on KFI-AM (640), but a year ago she jumped to KFWB-AM (980), which switched formats from news to talk with her as the centerpiece of its daytime lineup.................>>>>..............>>>>.......................http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-dr-laura-20100818,0,7871292.story
I think this entire thing is ridiculous... She wasn't calling anyone a "N" word, she was just quoting what the rappers put in their own music. But that's the society we live in, where "style over substance" rules...
If she was Dr Oprah instead, the press wouldn't have even picked up on it.

Never thought much of Dr. Laura .. so I won't miss her.

I don't think the issue was about dr. laura......I think it was about the 'n' word.....no?
I agree whole heartedly with her on this one!

And they both have made millions, I see nothing wrong with that. But, of course, you do... >

Dr Laura & "Third Place Miss Alaska" Palin, have a lot in common. Exploitation for Cash!

Stop dumping on Sarah Palin - for one thing former Governor Palin didn't "walk off the job" .. she resigned early to pursue other avenues. We have had Governors (such as Rockefeller and Pataki) who occupied the office for years but didn't show up at all. So I give Governor Palin credit for being honest with the people of Alaska and handing the office over to the Lt Governor when she determined that her outside activities were keeping her away from being a full-time governor.

So if 3rd place Miss Alaska had won the Vice Presidency, it would be ok with you if she just walked off the job because she had better things to do?
She took a 4 year job then quit half way through.
Palin was in way over head as Gov... can you imagine if she ever had to take over as President??? In the middle of a war, or a sept11 like attack... "Im goin home... got better things to do!"

I think Sarah Palin would have made a fine Vice President for a President McCain .. and President McCain has such a nice ring to it.

I nor anyone else knows if Palin would have been a good vp or not. And perhaps she did leave her governorship, but at least she left on her terms and not on the same terms as Spitzer.
Like her or not....she is an energizer......she attracts the largest audience.......is a great fund raiser......classy and well spoken.
How 'bout a 'Brewer/Palin' ticket in 2012?? Perhaps?
As far as Doc. Laura.....she will gain much more speed and probably become much more popular and wealthier since this stupid 'n' word issue appeared on the scene. It certainly appears that it is the females.....Sarah, Jan, Laura.... who have no problem speaking up and changing the status quo!!!

Democratic voice--I am beginning to think your use of the word "democratic" has nothing to do with the party. Palin is a MAJOR idiot whether she is home or on her way to the bank. As for Dr. Laura--it was just a matter of time that everyone would know just what a foul-mouth bigot she is. Palin gets NO credit for anything--she is a DUNCE.

Palin is clearly and factually NOT an idiot! Small town illiterate socialist rednecks think she is only because they 'no comprehend'!!
Doc laura is not now or never was a bigot! And if SHE has a foul mouth, than perhaps you should hear some black HBO comedy specials or be in a group of blacks. The doc was correct in saying that ..... if you are so hypersensitive, than perhaps she shouldn't have married out of her own race! My white cousin is married to a black man.............she admitted that you need to be thicker skinned in some instances. But they just blows it off!!
