I never mentioned a person by name.    But since you insist -- you are the delusional, uninformed
person not telling the truth

Any person or group of persons who wants to ... can come forward to volunteer to put together a
program or event at the Senior Center --- either for seniors or for any other group in the town.

You can leave your name and contact information at the Supervisor's Office with the request that it
be forwarded to the Parks and Recreation Commission.    Volunteers willing to serve their community
are always welcome.

I'm sure business are just dying to volunteer to put in sewers so they can donate to the senior center and the dog park......

Perhaps I am hyper -critical because I know what can be done.  If we don't begin new and improved programs the Town is not going to be in shape to attend to the needs  of more than 10,000 seniors in the next few years.

DVR-sorry pal you have to trust me on this one.  The frail elderly we have now need home visits.  Rotterdam has a higher rate of dementia than some areas not to mention more seniors in Schdy County who suffer with alcohol addiction.  They need transportation and yes we have many who are eligible for entitlements.  Rotterdam may need to think about a congregate meal program--but the money isn't there.

The sandwich generation is increasing and totally different then in the past. Studies show that more people than ever are caught caring for multiple generations. Adults live longer now.  People in their fifties and sixties are often taking care of their own adolescent children, often granchildren as well and their parents.  The costs of starting a life, marriage, buying a house are staggering and the kids move back in with their folks.  Ask Mertz, he was living with his in-laws for quite awhile when he was in office.  In the early part of this century only about 8% of children lived with their parents to care for them.  Now that figure has reached almost
50%.

Because of the way Rotterdam is structured we could lead the way in building an intergenerational daycare center. DVR I wouldn't haggle with me on this issue.  We need to get better quality programming in Rotterdam for our senior neighbors.  

And oh btw Cicero, one of our very Republican seniors has just offered to collect the dog $hit from the park in a bag and throw it at you when you leave the house.  He guarantees he will hit the target--he used to play baseball smarta$$.

first we need a foundation to afford them......we can talk programs and/or mandates all we want......we have no foundation......for
income.......they are reaping what they have sown......that's what happens.....generation after generation after generation......

I never said that there wasn't room for improvement ... even a good thing can be made better,
I was countering other posters who claimed that NOTHING is offered at the Senior Center or that the
only events/program at the Senior Center are for the town's seniors.  
The Parks and Recreation Commission should be sending its Vision 2020 Town Parks and Recreation
Plan to the Town Board within the next few weeks.  
One of our proposals is a multi-generational community center  ... and while we may not have the
funds to build a NEW building next year ---  I do think we can begin developing new programs and
activities   ... not just for seniors .. but folks of all ages.
As soon as this broad "road map" parks and recreation plan is sent to the Town Board, we can start
focusing on the specific parts to be implemented ... and these new programs will be a priority.

Anyone who has ideas or thoughts  --serious ones -- is always welcome to  write to the Town Parks
and Recreation Commission  c/o the Town Hall .. . or call the Supervisor's Office and leave a message for the Parks and Recreation Commission  ...  

I do get annoyed  (not specifically at you but others) at folks who claim that EVERYTHING is horrible
in town  ... then when I cite an example like the Farmer's Market or a local church using the Senior
Center for a social event  ...  these same folks make fun of it.
The FACT is ... 40% of the parishioners of my parish live in Rotterdam --even though the church
building is in the city.      They loved the Senior Center auditorium facility when we held a dinner and
later a Card Party there.     They want to use it again .. and have offered to help improve the
Senior Center.      
Bottomline --- we have a facility that is aging .. but still useable ... we have a senior program and a
youth program that is "good" but can be improved.    Now let's roll up our sleeves and work together
to improve BOTH the facility and the programs.
Despite what many people say on this website -- I am more than willing to meet anyone half-way .. if they are willing to work together to get the job done.

The time is now.

first we have to get the FIRST half done......sewers and the foundation for businesses......all we are doing right now is the circle jerk of money around the
same town with the same folks.....no growth.....it will age and rust just like Mont Pleasant if we dont do something now........the future is coming....
card parties can be at churches.....it's the churches that are responsible to care for their sheep.......

DVR-you need real professionals now to do the work of the future.  We are way past the volunteer stage.
