The Parks and Recreation Commission will be studying the "Dog Park proposal" this fall -  I am not sure it will be included in our overall town-wide Vision 2020 Parks Plan -- which you can read at Rotterdamny.Org

So, after 10/10 no votes here, you're still considering it?  Incredible.

I am sure the government lobby can phrase it as a life or death issue somehow.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Or, you will be called a bigot or canineophobe if you oppose the dog park.

Technically, this is just a blog and not an actual referendum.   Secondly, the full commission has not reviewed the proposal or discuss it .. so I do have an obligation to at least run it past them.

I do appreciate the input from the blog.

If you think I am a puppet .. name the folks you think are controlling me?

I take my role as chairman of the Parks Commission seriously .. and will bring to the commission's agenda any reasonable proposals -- give it "its day in court" .. and then let the commission make up its own mind.  I have no opinion - one way or the other - on this particular proposal .. and I appreciate the feedback from this blog.   However, the blog only represents - what ?.. dozen people  - so let me do my job and do be so quick to judge my actions.

I agree - we need sewers on Hamburg St - but that is not under the mantle of the Parks Commission - elect me to the Town Board .. and I'll move heaven and earth to get those sewers in on Hamburg St.   Until then, I will focus on the issues that I have some authority (however limited) over.

just some thoughts.....................

How many people are actually asking for a 'designer dog park'? 5, 10, 100, 1000?

Would it be exclusive to rotterdam residents only or open to the 'public'? And who would monitor that?

Would some dogs be banned and who would determine that?

What is considered and 'aggressive' dog? Barking? Jumping?

How many pit bulls now reside in schenectady county, that we know of?

What about Central Park? How far away is that 2-3-4 miles? OH MY!

Who will check if all dogs have had their shots?

Will there be fresh water available for these dogs?

Can someone bring a female dog that is in heat? And who will monitor that?

Possible parasite problems?

Will this be an 'off lease' or 'on lease' park only? Or perhaps both?

Who will check for vegetation that can be harmful to pets?

What kind of fertilizer/weed killer will be used that may be potentially harmful to dogs?

I happen to know for a fact that there are residents in rotterdam that raise and train pit bulls for fighting only!!! Do you want them in this dog park with your poodle? I think not.

The idea of a dog park just may be a law suit ready to happen. I'd check out the legalities! IMHO

The same amount of people that wanted a REMS taxing disrict.  It's the politicians who feel they need to do something just to say they did something.  The political class look no further than the next election.

No one should even be talking about wasting money on this when people are having to cash in IRAs and 401Ks to make living expenses and PAY THE 8TH HIGHEST PROPERTY TAX BURDEN IN AMERICA! I don't care HOW MANY dog owners bark for this!

use the bike/walk path.....didn't we just spend $$ on that?????? The only folks that want a dog park are those that want to live next to it and never
leave their neighborhood......
