Shadow has good points -- Bush and GOP wanted some reforms that might have staved off the housing crisis.
And yes, it is true that the GOP controlled Congress .. but they did not have the 60 votes, then, in the Senate to stop a Dem filibuster .. just like the Dems don't have the 60 votes, now, to stop a GOP filibuster.
For the record, the filibuster has been misused by BOTH parties when they have been in the minority .. speaking as a Democrat .. sometimes the Republicans do have a good idea .. and it should be fairly debated and brought to an up or down vote ... not forced to languish in an unending filibuster. |
