It's called "the slippery slope"... Conservatives LOVE IT!  They use it every chance they get, even though it's meaningless.

"If they outlaw a Mosque in NYC, next they will outlaw a Synagogue in Chicago... then a  Temple in Atlanta... (a slippery slope in action)... THEN THEY WILL OUTLAW ALL CHURCHES!!!
Chaos
Anarchy
Total Human Destruction...

Conservatives aren't very creative but they sure are entertaining!!!

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

I hope you're talking about Religious conservatives in general and not just about conservative Christians..
Go visit Turkey and Saudi Arabia and you'll see how tolerant Muslims are.

55,
If you re-read the post, you'll see that I was posting about the "Slippery Slope", an often used debating gimmick of the Right. (Apparently it works on Conservative minds, as they never seem to recognize it)

Example,
Allow welfare for starving Americans and next you'll have to allow it for almost starving Americans, then slightly hungry Americans, and next hungry American goats & chickens & cats & dogs... etc etc etc.

It's basic debating 101...

"Slippery Slope":
A FALLACY  in which a course of action is objected to on the grounds that once taken it will lead to additional actions until some undesirable consequence results.

There is some truth to the slippery slope theory, although it is overused.
Using your social welfare example:
Take a look at the original LBJ great society legislation and compare it to what social services provides today
or
Social Security was enacted by FDR in 1933. The retirement benefit was originally meant to be a supplement, but isn't for many people now.
However, with less people contributing to the system and more people getting benefits. raising the retirement age to 70 for full benefits is only the beginning. Look for a sliding scale of SS benefits to be based on "need".
In other words, the people who sacrificed with less in order to save for retirement will get screwed, while the people who saved nothing and lived for today..don't

So 55 you're a firm believer that if marriage included gay couples, in a few years marriage would include marriage to a goat.

Based on nothing but the Slippery Slope argument... you are a typical conservative.

How about "tax cuts for the rich are good... so more tax cuts for the rich would be even better... so lets tax the poor and middle class and give it to the Rich, since it's such a good thing!!!

You only believe the slippery slope arguments that fit your agenda...  again, a Conservative trait.

And you are typical all-knowing all-ASSuming liberal.

I am not a conservative, I am libertarian, look it up..huge difference.
As far as taxes..how about a national sales tax, exclude necessities like rent, food items, heat so it does not unfairly hit the working poor. The more you spend , the more you pay. Hit items brought into the County by non-businesses with a huge custom tax so the rich can't go around the tax..
The sales tax should in the neighborhood of 35%. A side benefit is it kills the argument of illegals not paying income tax for jobs under the table... that sound conservative to you?

A value added tax was also a proposal... that might work.

but
you have to remember the golden rule...(the people with the gold, make the rules).  and the rich will buy an exemption from their taxes just like they do now.

A libertarian???
Real Libertarians are not concerned with who marries who!
