With the new electronic voting machines, if you leave a line blank, the machine will remind you and show you the candidates again, so many people just pick any candidate to close the screen.
2.SC has an 'open primary' which means that Democrats and Republicans can vote in each others primaries. If the Republican candidate is running unopposed, Republicans might vote in the Democrat primary and vote for the 'weakest' candidate to run against their actual Republican choice.

It certainly appears, after watching this video, that even the 'questionable' candidates are so dismayed with this present obama government, that they will even embarrass themselves just to try to make a difference by running for office.
