Friday, July 2, 2010, 11:21am EDT NY seeks approval to create high-risk insurance pool The Business Review (Albany)
New York state has applied to develop a high-risk insurance pool as authorized under federal health care reform.
The program would allow uninsured people with pre-existing conditions to receive temporary insurance until other provisions of the reform act, including an insurance exchange, take effect in 2014.
“One of the most immediate benefits of federal health reform is this program to provide assistance to people with health problems and no insurance,” said Gov. David Paterson. “We welcome this opportunity to help our most vulnerable uninsured New Yorkers and we look forward to working with the federal government to implement this program as quickly and effectively as possible.”
The federal statute makes $5 billion available, nationally, over the next three and a half years for such a program. New York is expected to receive about $297 million of that. The program is expected to cover about 15,000 New Yorkers.
The federal government has guaranteed that no financial responsibility for the program will be shifted to the states. The federal funds will cover any operational costs and also subsidize premiums. Paterson said the goal is to have premiums below $600 a month. The state hopes to begin accepting applications by Aug. 15, with coverage available by the late fall..........................>>>>................>>>>................http://albany.bizjournals.com/albany/stories/2010/06/28/daily46.html?surround=lfn
Did anyone tell the governor that the feds debt has grown beyond belief? I would think the gov would understand. Did anyone tell the pres about how his free spending has impacted the US debt?
Oh, I didn't think so.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Your right, the WAR in Iraq has nothing to do with the debt. The WAR that costs each US taxpayer $4,000 a year and accomplished little to nothing and stopped not one single terrorist attack.
The war debt is small change compared to what this administration has spent in the last 18 months, Obama and the Dems are spending like Bush on steroids.
